C!dream catching c!sam regressing before he even knows what is happening pre canon and almost immediately positioning himself as a cg irresponsibly. His desire for control masquerading as a desire to help. And on the surface it does help, because sam trusts dream a lot, and he trusts dream to not only be able to care for him in that state but to help pull him out of it when it's doing more harm than good (read: inconvenient for Dream).

Dream taking advantage of this prior relationship while Sam is left alone in the prison after the jailbreak and trying to use it to control him, just like he did with tommy in exile. And sam falls so quickly and easily just from Dream changing his tone. He uses it to convince Sam that he's got it all wrong, his issues with tommy are just too complicated for his little brain for Dream to explain, and he can't argue with it because thinking about it for too long is starting to confuse him. Dream doesn't mean to hurt anybody, right? Hes Sam's best friend, the first person in this group he got really close with, and he trusts him, doesn't he? But he also trusts tommy, and its all so confusing and scary but it's all going to be okay, Dream said it would be. He just has to trust Dream.

All this only for Dream to gain access to the prison and rip the rug out from under him, just before letting him walk free. He was so stupid, he can't believe he just let dream play him like that. Of course he can't be trusted, he already knew that. How could he forget? How could he have failed tommy again? He let this happen. Its his own fault for allowing dream to get in his head. And now, if he tells anyone, Dream will find out, and he will kill him permanently.

I have nicer headcanons tho,, like calling c!foolish "baba" and calling c!ponk "mama" on one occasion (and the very dramatic positive reaction she had to that) and chew stimming and still feeling very protective and paternal over c!tommy when he's little (thats his baby even when HES baby) i just also think c!dream has been playing with his head since before the dsmp even started yk

Lowkey hates regressing bc its too vulnerable. It used to be a thing he'd do when he felt safe but noli bullied him out of it so now it really only happens as a negative reaction to high stress or trauma triggers so he doesn't have a lot of positive experience with it.

Thumb sucker. This poor man needs a paci but refuses to get one bc it's "too much."

Cries a lot. Another reason he hates regressing he doesnt like crying in front of anyone and its too easy to set him off and its too hard for him to stop.

He cries for "cookid" a lot. When he misses him hes inconsolable for hours. If you can't redirect his attention elsewhere he just has to cry it out.

VERY clingy. Holds onto you when youre going anywhere. Hand, shirt, whatever he can grab a hold of.

His shark pjs are a godsend for regressing at night, though. Leads to him calling it "shark time" in his head :^))

Guest learns about his regression when he catches him "destressing" after a match. He also regresses so he clocked it pretty immediately despite his attempts to hide it.

Guest's non judgement and comforting presence makes it feel safe again to regress. Guest also regressing alongside him definitely helped him open up more.
