Pubic Pool is presenting a new series of artwork by the artist Bumbo. "Siberia" consists of 20 new paintings all acrylic on canvas. Public Pool and Bumbo are donating 25% of sales from this Virtual Exhibition to selected Hamtramck High School Art Students. Artist Statement All of the pieces in this series were created in Feb. 2020, maybe into the first week of March. They’re particularly inspired by a personal love for Russian novelists. There’s beauty in despair. There’s beauty in the mundane. Artist Bio Hi. I’m Bumbo. I am now a fully sanctioned and practicing ARTIST. You may know me from my past lives as a printing press operator, a corporate office schlep, a Granny-award winning musician, a bar owner, a cookster and a wizard. I like to look at pretty paintings and I try to create pretty paintings. Paintings you can hang in your home or tent, or store in a standard sized closet. Paintings of things that make you feel stuff. The subject of my work is random in genesis, but then quickly beat into the ground through repetitious execution. Impatience and distraction are the driving forces at play, I have to go now. How it works _____________ On Saturday, May 23rd, at 2pm we will begin posting pictures of available pieces in this event on facebook. This will be a first come first serve. Just let us know if you are purchasing the piece in the photo comments and we will contact you privately for payment. We will not be holding pieces for private viewings, meaning, if you want to view it IRL first we won't take the photo down. Artwork will be available for viewing and pick-up by appointment only with masks being mandatory. Shipping is also available at an additional cost. I Must Be Crazy: Paintings By Maria Prainito Winczer

September 14th, 7pm–10. Gallery Hours Saturdays 1-6pm. through October 26th Public Pool, 3309 Caniff St., Hamtramck, MI 48212 In this exhibition we are presented with expressionist figurative paintings. The figures are pulled, stretched, pixelated and smudged, they look outward, being judged, viewed or observed; self-conscious. There is open idiosyncratic behavior whether someone is blowing bubbles, smoking or touching; negative spaces are filled with explosions of thrown pigment. Maria uses self-reflection and autobiographical story to explore social meanings, in our pursuit for connection. Her work is an investigation surrounding the ideology of cognitive psychology, social learning theories, and the works of Dr. Albert Bandura and Dr. Steven Pinker, thinkers on the works of psychological theories. The exhibition also works as communal experiment. While investigating the paintings, we invite you to participate in holding and petting bunnies, self sooth and recharge. In this shared experience listen, drink, eat, touch and view. We are permitted to stop; enjoy peace, and even some pleasure. Artist Statement: In my paintings, I evoke signs from the outcome of current cultural and social topics through different image systems such as art history, fashion, design, and popular culture. Playing with the notions and authority of representational figure painting, I deconstruct old ideas of secure identity. I offer possibilities between self and the constructed image as I attempt to clarify my present-day hopes, fears and insecurities about gender, feminist ideals and socioeconomic progress. Mine or events from others, are often the muse behind the work which involve a type of historical biography. By referencing individual moments and an auto-ethnographical process, I create works rooted in the need for empathy and a contemporary desire for connection and feeling. Using multi-layered painting applications and approaches, I deconstruct the technical and social fabric, trying to elicit a different conversation; a personal conversation. Created through the figures presented, with the deconstruction of fixed painting techniques, I emphasize conflicts between conscious and subconscious thought. I stress ideas of vulnerability, false glamorization, and the anxiety of reconsidering the notions of idealism or trend. To influence a new form of representation I emphasize new realities and the belief of being understood as not pretty or ugly, not female or male, not rich or poor, but human

Please join us for B L U E B E R R I E S ! ! ! This is the 6th annual fruit themed art show curated by Detroit artist Alice V. Schneider. During the opening artists reception on July 13th, 7-11pm Public Pool shall bask in the glory of the blueberry. A Blueberry is a plump and tiny little berry from a woody shrub, small in size, but large in taste—the wilder, the better. The blueberry has a sweet taste, the mouthfeel is juicy with a delightful squirt of juice as you tongue and nibble and bite down on a ripe berry. DJ Sanford will bust out the sweet jams while we luxuriate in the blue haze of the bloob. B L U E B E R R I E S ! ! ! will be on display through August 3rd, with a karaoke closing reception hosted by Polish John from 7-11pm. “Bloobs. Globular. Aphrodisiacal. Voluptuous. Sensuous. Juicy. More Jessercise: A Multimedia installation by artist Jessica Frelinghuysen, May 18–June 29

**Open on Saturdays from 1 to 6 p.m.** Yes, get your beach body ready as Public Pool presents a special installment of Jessica Frelinghuysen's "More Jessercise!" This multimedia installation attempts to reconcile body image, weightloss (and gain) and the glorious foods of Hamtramck, Michigan. Participants will use the Jessercise "Art-Fit" Gymnasium and special "cake and champagne" work-out circuit in the gallery and be recruited to indulge in a series of Jessercise Participatory Workout Performances. Yes, your favorite Hamtramck artist will show you the best ways to eat and drink and interact with the food and city that you love, all while getting that body bikini ready! The show opened on the evening of May 18th, with a reception for the artist from 7-11pm and a special audience participation performance led by Frelinghuysen at 8:30—workout gear was encouraged! *****STAY TUNED for a special Jessercise Workout extravaganza performance in June! ****Regular Jessercise classes planned for Saturdays in June. Check Facebook for times and updates. Jessica Frelinghuysen is holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a M.Arch from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Her sound installations have been shown at The Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art and at The Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University and other national venues. She is the recipient of a fellowship from the Joan Mitchell Foundation and has also been awarded artist residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts in California, Sculpture Space in New York, and Santa Fe Art Institute. She lives in Hamtramck, Michigan, the subject of her current work. Jessica goes to the gym regularly and loves all kinds of food, including the healthy kind. You Are Next To Me: An Installation and Performance by Leslie Rogers and Mark McCloughan. March 9–April 20

While in Wisconsin on a recent residency, the artists encountered a couple in a local bar. A delicate and complex chemistry emerged, resulting in an evening that unfolded in several stages. The experience prompted McCloughan and Rogers to write a narrative account of the evening, one which tracks their social, emotional, and poetic responses to this encounter with a context and its inhabitants that featured feelings of alterity and familiarity in equal measure.

Installed in the gallery will be two- and three-dimensional works that take elements of the artists' experience and constellate them into new configurations that draw out the darkness and the lightness contained in the evening's events. Join us later in the month for a full length storytelling performance developed within the exhibition.
