“Flawed is an understatement.” he scoffed before rolling his eyes. “Oh, my bad, I forgot Evan is a baby and you are his nanny.” he said, his tone dripping sarcasm. “I mean, I am leaving, this time for good. I’ll tell you what’s going on.. later, when you are sober.” He sighed at how defeated she sounded. “Well, you deserve better than Nott,” he said bluntly, “but you also shouldn’t be stuck with Theo all your life, it’s not fair.” 

“I wouldn’t say that,” Andromeda argued weakly, before rolling her eyes. “No, but Evan did almost die, so yes, I am rather protective over him.” She pointed out, shaking her head. “You are?” Her face lit up and she threw her arms around her cousin. “Good, you deserve to be happy, more than anyone I know. If there’s anything I can do to help, let me know,” She told him honestly. “Stefan isn’t bad, he treated me well, Sirius,” Andy sighed softly. “Perhaps not, but I’m afraid of what might happen if I break off a third betrothal.”

Charity had had one too many drinks at the wedding reception, and was rather sloppy. She wasn’t one to drink normally, and the free bar didn’t help her case. She had a half finished drink in her hand, her 6th or 7th of the night, when she all but fell into Andromeda. “Andyyyyyy!” She slurred, a big grin on her face. “Are you having fun? Do you know how much I loovee yoou?” She said with a small laugh, pulling her friend in for a messy hug.

A laugh escaped her lips, the girl having had one or two glasses of wine. It was her cousin’s wedding, after all. Spotting the other girl, she let out a laugh, “Someone had one too many, Char?” She teased, wrapping her arms around the other. “I love you too, but are you sure you don’t need water?”

“Do you really think that?” Elise asked the girl. It wasn’t supposed to be a mean question; she could imagine it would be both worrisome and terrifying. “I haven’t really spoken to him, but…he seems lovely.” She paused then, taking a sip of her drink. “Then, surely, that just means you can continue pursuing what you want?”

“Not particularly, I’ve given up faith, if I’m honest,” She admitted with a sigh. “He seems nice enough, yes. I don’t want to be disloyal, which, given the circumstances is weird, but I don’t know if I could potentially jeopardise the situation. I don’t think my parents would be happy if I ruined another betrothal.”

“Fine, mum. I’ll sneak around a bit more so you cannot catch me and judge me. No matter how much you enjoy it.” Katrina rolled her eyes before smiling again. “That sounds good enough for you?”

“I’m not your mother, I am, however, a prefect and you should know to respect that,” Andromeda spoke coolly. “I don’t judge, I’m simply doing my job.”

His lips curved up in a sad smile. He wasn’t sure how to simply stop wanting to protect her, keep her as happy as he could manage to. “I did love you, and I still do, and I think I always will.” he murmured, “You didn’t ruin anything, Meda, and that is not true. Don’t even think that.” 

Andromeda had to hold back a sob when Stefan spoke. “I still love you too, and I always will. Nothing will ever change that, Stefan.” She murmured back, chewing down on her lower lip. “It is though, Stefan, all I’ve ever done is hurt you and you deserve so much more than that.”

Regulus chuckled at her words and nodded. “It’s all we can do, I suppose.” He pointed out softly. As she frowned at him and questioned what he wasn’t telling her, he rolled his eyes, shaking his head. “I’m not not telling you anything, Andy. It’s just been a long few days. You’re right, I’m lucky that there’s no one else.”

“Unfortunately so,” Andromeda sighed heavily, before frowning. “If I have children, that is. I’m not sure if that’s an option anymore.” As the other spoke again, Andromeda rolled her eyes. “I don’t believe that for a second. Come on, Reggie, you know I won’t tell a soul.”

“I promise to start saying it more from now on.” The blonde smirked, reaching for her glass. “Oooh, that’s a good one.” She raised her hand in a mock toast. “To having decisions made against your will.”

“I’ll hold you to that one,” Andromeda joked, sipping her drink. “It certainly is,” Forced laughter left her lips as she tipped her glass towards Kasia. “Though perhaps we ought to do something stronger.”

“I doubt that.” Reg told her with a small smile. He certainly did not think that he thought too highly of her. Just highly enough. “I’m glad to hear you wouldn’t continue their methods. I wouldn’t either.” He admitted softly. And he could only hope that Kasia wouldn’t want to either, if it came down to that. As Andy mentioned not having else in the equation, he nodded slightly, sipping at his wine again before answering. “I’m lucky in that regard, you’re right.” He said coolly, trying not to show anything on his face.

Andromeda simply smiled back at him, chewing on her lower lip. “Yeah, it doesn’t seem fair, but I suppose we learn from our parents mistakes, right?” She admitted with a sigh, running her hand through her hair. However, at his change in tone, she frowned, brows knitting together. “Don’t take that tone with me, Regulus. What aren’t you telling me?”

“Did I ever tell you I love you?” Kasia joked as a response to the other’s offer. After the spring break her drinking habits increased to the point that her sobriety was exlusive to the lunch time. “What are we toasting to?”

“Not often enough,” Andromeda teased back. “Hmm, not entirely sure. Shitty betrothals, perhaps?”

The older brunette snapped her fingers at the bartender, catching his attention and curtly described her choice of drink before her gaze switched back towards her sister. “I’m sorry they’re forcing you into this again.” The brunette admitted in an unusually soft voice, one that was solely reserved for her family. “Maybe he’ll be a good match, he looks very vanilla.” She quipped lightly in an attempt to ease the tension.

“I should be used to it by now, should I?” Andromeda smiled sadly at her sister, before letting out a laugh. “Vanilla, maybe, but he’s also gay, Bella, it’s not exactly a secret, either. We might be friends, but that’s all we’ll ever be.”

He smiled a bit easier when she smiled, but her next words caused it to fall. “A…A betrothal? ‘Dromeda, I’m…I’m so sorry, I know this can’t be easy.” Ted glanced around the hall bore opening the door to the kitchens, placing his hand between her shoulder blades once he stepped closer. “I feel like it’s going to be a ‘hidden stash of alcohol’ kind of evening. Come on, we talk about this inside, yeah?

“Yeah, third times the charm I guess,” Andromeda sighed heavily. “I should be used to it by now, but I don’t think I could ever get used to it. My parents just don’t seem to understand the idea of marrying for love, apparently.” She murmured, shoulders relaxing at his touch. “I think you might be right,” Andromeda agreed, before stepping inside the portrait.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Of course you have to bring us a wedding present.” Sirius huffed and folded his arms over his chest. “Well, especially me even if Mary doesn’t want it. So, where is it?” 

“Sirius, honestly,” Andromeda laughed, shaking her head. “You know this whole ceremony is about you marrying the love of your life, and not the presents right?” She mused, watching as the other left.

Andromeda was wine drunk, but it was her cousins wedding so for once she was actually celebrating. She was truly happy for her cousin, he deserved it after all. Even if happiness was something out of reach for her. She’d lost Theo a while ago, he was pleasant company and Andromeda was sure they’d make good friends. Except, friends is all they’d ever be.

Her eyes caught sight of Ted and she smiled, she wanted to talk to him but there was far too many prying eyes. So, when her gaze met his, she jerked her head in the direction of the corridor, before leaving the party -- hoping he’d follow.

When she saw him, her smile grew. “Hey, I was wondering if you’d follow,” She mused, stepping towards him. “How are you enjoying the reception?”

“I will not confirm nor deny.” So Katrina was oddly stubborn about it, but she wasn’t willing to let the girl know anything. “So you do, then. You don’t have to hide it, it’s to be expected.”

“Right. Of course not,” Andromeda shook her head. “Just... take it, if you’re going to be like this. Perhaps next time, eat it in the kitchens like everyone else. Less likely to be caught stealing that way.”

A sigh left his lips as he smiled at her sadly. “You need to stop apologizing for things not in your control.” His gaze flickered to the ground at her question about her father, it would be easier to lie to her but perhaps a hint of the truth could drive her away from him. It was what they needed, wasn’t it? They might both still be happier if he had kept his distance like he had when they had freshly broken up. Trying to reconcile, to be friends, had only blown right back in their faces. “I can’t allow anybody to hurt you.” he said, perhaps not the most direct answer but an answer nonetheless. The distance he maintained closed in a second when he saw the tears falling from her eyes, stepping forward to wipe it off with his thumb and resting his forehead against hers. “I’m sorry too.”

“I can’t help it,” Andromeda murmured, teeth tugging on her lower lip. “Stefan--” She wanted to push, to know what he was talking about, but it didn’t feel like this was the right time. “You don’t have to keep protecting me if all it does is hurt you,” She swallowed, shaking her head.  Andromeda couldn’t help but lean into his touch, a sigh escaping her lips as her forehead rested against his own. “Don’t. This isn’t your fault. All you did was love me, and I ruined you.” Another tear slipped down her cheek. “I am so, so sorry. You deserve so much better than me.”
