Recovered anorexic fighting the endometriosis fight combat boots first. I almost didn't make it through, but I survived my eating disorder with scars, scrapes, and not without consequences. I earned my fucking stripes. So many of us do not survive; but I believe anyone can recover and live to tell their tale. I promise it will be an uphill climb, the fight of your life, a long journey, and there will be many dark nights. Take my hand and it will be my honor to encourage you through it.

Interviewer: Your stage performances can seem violent and have even been called “self-destructive.” How is this different from your off-stage personality? Alice: I think I’m more self-destructive off-stage. Maybe its just easier to hide it in private. Music is ritualistic, it makes you invoke feelings you didn’t know you had before. My subconscious is probably destructive. Interviewer: Robert Smith said you were the “first true punk rocker since 1978”. How did his comment make you feel? Do you see yourself as a punk and if you do or don’t, why? Alice: Robert Smith is one of the few true great front people because he is sincere. It’s obvious when one’s sentiments are disingenuous. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to matter who truly lives what they claim to stand for. Any positive enforcement from him is humbling. For me punk rock is associated with freedom, the choice to revolt against unwritten conditions of society we’ve accepted by simply being born. Interviewer: What was it like dressing up in clothes for the shoot? Alice: I like doing things I have never done before. I’ll try anything once or twice. I’ll probably never do it again. Interviewer: Are you conscious of your image as rebellious and anti-authority or is that just who you are? What were you like growing up? Alice: I’ve always had a problem with authority based on basic historical patterns. Those in power, throughout history, have been corrupt. I don’t remember when I stopped feeling intimidated by anyone. I don’t remember the last time I felt intimidated by anyone. I don’t see why some feel they are superior to others on the basis of things like thinking they have socially preferable class, gender, race or anything out of their control.

I know what its like to feel powerless. The freedom that comes with doing what you want and saying what you want because you have nothing to lose is intoxicating. I would like to encourage anyone to speak their mind and question authority, especially young women. Interviewer: You told NME that you “like pissing people off.” What do you like most about it? Alice: I live for sincere moments. Witnessing the passionate eyes of hate and locking with them makes up for all the phony weather talk. Life without passion is meaningless. I don’t waste my time trying to convince people they should believe in what I do, I don’t care. I want certain people to hate me and hate everything I stand for. Interviewer: What is it like when you are not on the road touring? Alice: I don’t remember what life is like not being in this band. I feel like I’ve been nomadic since birth.
