Oh, ants!

An ant, not a particularly big part of our everyday lives, sugar ants, are usually seen as a pest in our kitchens. A sugar ant became a “super-ant” in Ilari Toivettulas mini performance piece. As the audience waited in a darkened room, they heard a recording of a male voice explaining what an ant meant to him as a child. Childhood memories of the summer cottage, playing with the ants for hours, feeding them peanuts and building shelters for them. As the story began to unfold, a projected red line began to trace a path along the wall, it showed the path of the creature in its not-natural habitat. Ilari had placed the ant on a graphics tablet and was following it’s path with the pen as the recording told of his relationship with these hard workers in nature.
