it's ours this time {closed}
"And you're sure it'll work this time, Dr. Finklestein? I don't mean to push you but we've only got a few hours left now before it's time."
Dr. Finklestein grinned, revealing fleshy pink gums with only a few teeth remaining. "Yes, Jack, I believe it's finally ready. I have solved the prior issue, you see, by hardwiring a connection between the..."
The rest of the scientist's words were lost to Jack, as he immediately began revelling in just how terrifyingly magnificent this year's Christmas was certain to be. Oh, he had definitely learnt his lesson about trying to take over holidays that were not his area of expertise, but that was not to say that Sandy Claws wouldn't appreciate a teeny tiny bit of help, right?
About a week ago, Jack had come up with perhaps the best Christmas present of all time, not to mention one that could be shared by all. He was certain Sandy Claws would thank him graciously and perhaps even enlist his assistance in subsequent years, erasing his past, ahem, mistakes.
"Thank you, Doctor, thank you! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help in this, I simply couldn't have done it without you!"
Finklestein's wrinkled old lips curled into a smug grin as he turned his wheelchair away to start cleaning up his tools. "Not a problem, my boy. I am rather curious to know how this experiment shall end, myself."
Jack made a 90-degree bow towards Finklestein before taking his leave, pulling the fruit of the doctor's work along behind him in a wooden cart. The experiment in question was a rather heavy device designed to send an extremely high voltage of electricity through soil, water, wood or what-have-you once it had been plunged into the ground. All it required was the touch of a button.
The graveyard gates squeaked loudly as Jack pushed them inward, still pulling his cart behind him. He made a slow trek up the tallest hill within the graveyard before finally stopping.
Excited barks alerted him to the fact that his dog had once again been playing around among the graves. "Zero! I was wondering where you'd gone off to." The dog padded up to wind himself around Jack's ankles, before coughing up his own rib and looking expectantly at his owner.
"No, Zero, I'm afraid I can't play with you right now. Another day, I promise." The dog whined, before noticing the cart and sniffing at it curiously. Jack moved to lift the device up, lanky limbs trembling in exertion, before driving the pointy tip of it deep into the earth.
He checked his pocket watch. Good, he still had a few minutes before it was officially Christmas. No doubt Sandy Claws was already in action in some part of Disney. After he pushed the button, however, Sandy Claws could probably take the rest of the night off. Jack was always happy to help a friend.
Jack steeled himself, extended one long, bony finger, and pushed. For a few minutes, it appeared as though nothing had happened. Frowning, the pumpkin king bent down to examine the device, before a sound interrupted him. He whipped around.
The sound in question was the sound of a hand being thrust up through the dirt a little ways away from him. It was followed by a similar sound elsewhere, and another, and another. He and the doctor had done it. They had raised the dead.
Jack clasped his arms to his chest, and let out a shrill giggle. "IT'S CHRISTMASTIME!"
