imagine hating me and i’m j on my ipad commenting on every post in r/americangirl how cutie the dolls are
1987 and 1991 #pleasantcompany ##Samantha
Isn't it cool that both of these are dolls?
The first doll is the 90s, Our New Baby in the Bitty Baby fuzzy onesie. The second doll is Reborn Baby Patience, which I just finished painting.
She is available!

meet cricket: my 2012 tumblr-era hipster nerd american girl doll! 💕
inspired by my own experiences on tumblr as a teen, she loves doctor who, polaroid photography, riot grrrl music, and mixed media collage 🌈
Bitty Baby Moana 👶 😍 repainted.
Princess Tiana customized 🤗
My original 1990 Kirsten that I got as a kid, a newer Felicity (I don’t have my original😭), a $15 Samantha I restored and a Molly I got maybe 12 years ago new. These are the girls I knew as a kid. I am still waiting on more doll stands and I need to dig up my thrift store Josefina. I can’t remember if I have her meet outfit. I have a perfect Addy in box but I’m not ready to take her out of her boxed perfection so I should find a “play” Addy. I have a thrifted Kit but I’m waiting on new clothes. My Kaya is in a bit rough shape and I need her meet outfit.
After moving like 5 times in the past 8-10 years and collecting for about 15 years it’s been a bit chaotic. I was really into the modern girls for a while and now I’m going back to my roots with the historical girls. I still love both. I try to buy used if I can but I am not sure if I want to do too much more restoring anymore with my elbow and hand pain but I also am not sure if I should be supporting AG either. I am also really in debt and have been very careless with spending money on my hobby. Please be a responsible collector!
Happy Early Valentines and Grace Day?
Paris and pastries please.
I love her collection.
I don’t know why Jesse is so tall.
I have tons of dolls but I had to use Jess again because I like seeing her cute face.
because i keep making the mistake of going into ag communities outside of tumblr, i've really been trying to reckon with the consumerism in the fandom, so here's a few reminders if you are into collecting ag items!
this is a hobby! and like all hobbies, it should be bringing you joy. if it's stressing you out, that's probably a sign that you need to step back, which is an absolutely okay thing to do
your collection is valid even if it includes replicas of items originally made by american girl
you do not have to buy items that you don't love just to reach the arbitrary goal of "completing" a collection
you should not be purchasing items that you don't like just for the sake of keeping up with american girl's newest releases
american girl has continuously been showing us that they are much more interested these days in being a luxury nostalgia brand. you do not have to engage with what the brand is currently doing or producing to be a part of the fandom or collecting community
in fact, you do not have to do a lot of research to learn that mattel is not an ethical company. i'm not going to shame anyone who does continue to purchase products from american girl, but please do not be purchasing items from this brand just from a place of consumerism. there are so many small businesses that produce items for ag dolls that you can support, and you can easily find many second-hand american girl products
you should never be spending money that you don't have on american girl
making clothes and items is valid! handmade parts of your collection are beautiful
This is so valid!
Sometimes, I watch people on YouTube with these massive doll collections and think, ‘Wow, I wish I had over 100 dolls!’ But then I remember how much stress my 30 dolls already bring me on a daily basis. 😅 I’ve definitely found myself overspending or using 'buy now, pay later' plans just to have something to look forward to. If I’m being honest, it all really started after the election—but I won’t get into that. The truth is, I’ve been disassociating for months now, lost in the dolls. I think selling most of my Mattell and concentrating on PC might make me feel a bit better all around.
Anyway, thanks for listening!
Girl of Today 3, 4 and 6
The '99 girls in authentic ‘90s outfits. The more my collection evolves, the more I find myself drawn to the original ‘90s dolls and the Girl of Today clothing. They feel so distinct from the modern American Girl aesthetic—pinks, purples, and an almost overly childlike appeal that the brand seems determined to push.
I get that these dolls are designed for ages 8 and up, but the Pleasant Company dolls from the early ‘90s were just on another level. The quality alone was unmatched. Sometimes, I feel like selling every Girl of the Year doll I own and starting fresh—focusing only on Girl of Today dolls and their outfits.
Tonight, I went down a rabbit hole researching the Halloween costumes from the ‘90s and, well… let’s just say I spent way too much on eBay.
Am I the only one who feels this way? Like I just want to sell everything and start over?
I feel very similar! As you can see here I've got Nicki dressed in some period accurate AG of Today clothes, and Saoirse, my JLY 37, has been rocking the 90's and y2k looks too despite her being a Mattel girlie.
There's just something so solid about the construction and quality of the clothes from those years. There were more options available as far as aesthetics go. They had clothes for tomboys like me and Nicki, clothes for various femme aesthetics, artist, sporty, there was just so much variety in what you could buy. Now it really does feel like they just want to peddle the purple girly clothes reminiscent of build-a-bear clothing.
I'm just now starting to properly grow my AG collection, and I don't think I'd buy any GOTY dolls aside from Lindsey, just because a lot of what draws me to the dolls is the nostalgia tied to them. I've got two PC girls, my childhood Molly and Felicity, a pleasant company JLY 16, and then the two in these photos are my only Mattel girlies. I'll probably put a heavy focus on rehabbing PC girlies, because I've been doing rehab projects with my childhood dolls and I'm really enjoying it.
But yeah the 90's and early 00's stuff is unmatched omg.

I found this on Pinterest, and it made me so happy. I ordered the sparkling mermaid costume, and it is so ridiculous! I cant wait to take photos.
