As a non-white, non-Argentine person who has lived in Argentina, I am fed up with seeing this stupid propaganda of hatred towards Argentina when in the last World Cup everyone was in favor of them winning. Instead of believing everything you see on social media and spreading hate, do your research and educate yourself.

Not only does Argentina not have a single cent to pay FIFA to buy its past matches, but to call the entire country racist and Nazi is a serious matter and carries a lot of weight. Argentina is a mixed-race country, since, like most Latin American countries, it was colonized by the Spanish. Therefore, it obviously has a history of racism, but it cannot be compared to that of the United States because it was different. Segregation did not exist in Argentina; in fact, it was one of the first Latin American countries to pass a law declaring that children born to former slaves were automatically free at birth in Argentina. And they are not Nazis simply because there was a wave of Germans who moved to Argentina after World War II, and the rumor that the man with the mustache escaped to Patagonia to live there is just that—a rumor.

Is Argentina a country with flaws? Yes, like any other, it has people who are homophobic, racist, xenophobic, among other things. But as I said, there are just a few people, not the entire nation, because a true Argentinian is someone who welcomes others with open arms. Argentina has a good national team with good players; unfortunately, Spain performed better, but they put up a good fight. Messi is an exceptional player whom even players from other countries admire and respect (EVEN RONALDO, for those who loved that dude) because he has achieved what every footballer dreams of. You can support any team you like; it's not illegal. But talking trash and spouting nonsense like "the evil was defeated" cause of the rumors is simply and completely xenophobic.

Anyways, congratulations to Spain. Your team really played an awesome game, well deserved. And to the Argentina haters, go read a damn book and not just Twitter.

It was never just a game. The history is just too long and our own government (who don't represent us in anything they're just selling us in pieces and allowing a spread of misinformation about us) authorized penalties for those who had this kind of flags during the game.

It was just so powerfull watching them do this on live television. It was never just a game, they knew it they played like it and I swear I've never cried this much watching a game and specially when I saw that flag.

I hate what today has become. It’s his 100th race for the team and it was amazing to see George get in touch with his instincts and get his groove back. He dominated the weekend and got pole!

He led most of the race!

There were pace issues and an issue with the strategy but he still fought and defended hard and got that p2.

I wanted to celebrate that but by the end of the day I just feel bittersweet. The team is openly not supporting him beyond a pathetic bare minimum. Alongside the everything else this season, now they don’t show up for his podium (a podium at his 100th race for them, and a p2 in general) and they barely acknowledge him after in their statements and posts.

I am so glad I got into this sport but I can recognize that my investment feels like it’s diving too deep. I claim my driver, I have my ops, and I take every success and failure personally and it blurs the line to feeling like none of it is real (more accurately this sport feels like fiction).

And I think what bothers me the most is that what we are seeing from this team, their current actions, are cartoonishly villainous; which doesn’t help the that fictional feeling. They’re being so obvious, that it feels like a tv script or a movie about an underdog fighting to be recognized. But that’s so shitty because this isn’t a movie…these are real people, real teams/companies, real decisions & motives, and this is a real sport.

And I think it’s hitting me so hard because as a human being I want to see the best in people and this level of disrespect feels fictional; so to know it is happening real life is not really comprehending in my brain. My brain is having to acknowledge shitty people being shitty, especially in today’s world climate, and it’s just depressing.

I can in fact tell reality from fiction and I also know that there can be all sorts of people in the world, whether selfish or mean or even anything at all. But you also can’t argue that F1 in recent years has tried so hard to blur that line by focusing more on entertainment value and developing parasocial attachments to the teams and drivers.

…anyway, all this nonsense venting to say that I’m glad for the week break because while I can be sad for George and upset with Mercedes, I need to breathe for a minute

This. Like I have a friend that fully stopped watching f1 just because it was affecting her too much and she's already battling depression. George resilience was an example for her but it got to a point were watching him get kicked on the floor hurt too much.

And me too. I have honestly cried this season not for the results but for the disrespect I've seen from the team I chose to follow. We're were fucking winning every race and yet I was sad or mad more than half of them.

I can't understand what went wrong. Toto fucking finished raising him, there's a book that says how George went asking toto for hugs when he felt down. Yet on his 100 race with the brand they left him alone. Niki would have been there, he believed in George but toto believes in money and newspapers photos.
