You are a woman, you shouldn’t be here.
That was printed neatly on your wrist. To be honest, you wanted nothing more than to slap whoever your soulmate. You wanted a new one. Right now. You couldn’t stand the idea that whoever this soulmate of yours was, they would not get very far.
You held papers to your chest, as your eyes darted around you, your hair was pulled back into a neat ponytail, you wore no dress. You didn’t care if you didn’t look proper, whatever people thought they could turn around and leave. You were hurrying with your best friend to work. Who was your best friend? None other than the infamous Alexander Hamilton. You had made many valid points when you were talking about politics once. Alex had been passing by and when the person started to diss what you thought, he quickly countered them with reasons you were right. Until the person left, and just like that you two became best friends.
“You have all your papers, (Y/N)?” Alexander asked as you guys stopped running, turning into a brisk walk as you approached the tall building. You quickly moved your papers into a view where you can easily scan through them. After your eyes quickly looked over the titles you sent a curt nod.
“I take it that you also made sure you had all yours?” You questioned as Alexander nodded.
“All but 3 buts those are in my desk. So let’s hurry and stop by there. We can then go to see Washington. I hope Jefferson isn’t here.” Alexander grumbled the last part in annoyance which made you chuckle lightly as you both entered the building. You both walked through the building, you held your papers close to your chest as you watched Alexander pull some papers from his desk.
“Oh! I forgot a paper at Lafayette’s office! I’ll be there soon. Tell Washington I’ll be there soon!” You chimed as you quickly darted away from Alexander, as he went the other way to get to Washington’s office.
~
“Thanks Laf. I can’t believe I forgot them here yesterday.” You thanked your french friend as he nodded.
“Go on now (Y/N). You don’t want to keep Washington waiting.” He ushered you off as you nodded as you quickly headed off to Washington’s office. As you moved swiftly you lowered your head too quickly read over the papers you had just got. As you read them, the last thing you expected was to slam right into someone.
“I’m sorry, Sir. I’m in a hurry so if you will excuse me-” You started as you quickly scampered to your feet, snatching your papers from the ground.
“You are a woman. You shouldn’t be here.” The voice said and you felt the color drain from your face. And the man went quiet before hurriedly rolling up his sleeve.
“Ohhh! So you're my soulmate? So supporting!” You said sarcastically as you snapped your gaze up, only to find a rather tall man with a pink suit. You looked at him glaring harshly at him as Washington’s door swung open.
“(Y/N)! Come on! I need you right now!” Alexander called out and stopped spotting the man in front of you. “Get away from her Jefferson.” Your friend snapped as he hurriedly made his way to you, grabbing your wrist as he yanked you into the office, and out of the sight of your soulmate. Your eyes still wide. Your soulmate was none other than your best friend’s enemy. Thomas Jefferson…

You had been talking to Alexander and Washington for 2 hours, explaining things. “Interesting. I’ll make sure to look over all your papers so leave them here. Alex I need to talk to you, you can go (Y/N). Make sure to be here tomorrow.” Washington said as you nodded, pulling your coat on. You fastened the buttons and made your way to the door after saying your goodbyes to the men. As you exited the room, you didn’t think you would come face to face with Jefferson leaning against the wall on the other side. Your gaze then went icy cold.
You briskly turned on your heels as you made your way down the hall towards Lafayette’s office. Maybe you could hang out with Lafayette for a while since Washington was letting you go early… You could probably help him with some paper work. You reasoned with yourself, ignoring the footsteps that were following you quickly. “Can you just wait? Seriously!” Jefferson exclaimed behind you though you did not slow.
“I have somewhere to be Mr. Jefferson. I don’t see why you want me to stop. I thought you said, I’m a woman and I shouldn’t be here.” You snapped without turning around to face your soulmate.
“Well it’s true-”
“That is not true, Thomas.” Lafayette’s french accent cut in, as your gaze darted up, your eyes sparkling as you hugged the french man.
“Laffy Taffy!” You said as he sighed shaking his head, looking down at you seeing you had attached to him like a kid would.
“I thought I told you not to call me that at work.” Your friend scolded you lightly.
“Oh I’m so sorry I wanna call me boyfriend that.” You said boyfriend sarcastically and you hadn’t expected to be suddenly harshly tugged off Lafayette and being dragged away.
“Oui! What are you doing?” Lafayette called to Jefferson who was dragging you along as you tried to tug out of his grip, but he seemed to have the grip of a vice. You huffed as you let him drag you all the way to his office.
“Why is he your boyfriend? I’m your soulmate.” Thomas Jefferson said crossing his arms finally letting go of your wrist.
“So what? I don’t think I like you very much. I happen to like my job. I’ve heard many things about you-”
“Many good things-”
“Many things from Alexander Hamilton.” You cut him off as he groaned in annoyance.
“You listen to Hamilton? He is a basta-”
“Watch what you call my best friend.” You interrupted him once more with a scold.
“I think we got off on the wrong foot-”
“You think so!?!”
“We should restart-”
“Well maybe I don’t want to-”
“Can I just finish!?!” Thomas said exasperated as he sighed shaking his head. “Look. Most women don’t work these kind of jobs okay? Can you just let it slide and start over?” He seemed to say it in almost a pleading tone.
“Fine. I am (Y/N) (L/N).” You said, though you gave no bow or anything.
“Thomas Jefferson.” He said as he took your hand kissing your hand. You sighed lightly as you ran your fingers through your ponytail. “How about I buy you a drink to apologize?”
“Good enough. I am being let off early. And you?” You questioned, glancing at the man.
“I can get some time off. I am not doing anything important.” Jefferson said as he hooked his arm with yours, as you started out the building.
‘Is this even a good idea?’ You thought paling slightly. ‘I’ll just give him a chance. He blows it then he gets punch in the face.’ You concluded.
