Hi! I’m Morri or Levi. I am 15 (16 on June 16th!). I am a system! Diagnosed polyfrag DID. I’m also diagnosed w lots and lots of other stuff, I am autistic, adhd, and schizophrenic! As well and physically disabled. I am a mixed poc (black, Chinese, and American indigenous!) and am very proud of it. Im glad im not the only one frustrated with the tme/tma thing. Being transfem and watching other transfems use the term honestly makes me really nervous about the potential transfem seperatist shit that will emerge from it. Not to mention, everyone is affected by trans misogyny in variable amounts, including cis men and women scrutinized for their gender presentation and bodies. Feels backwards and wrong.

It's interesting that you point out the separatism angle in TME/TMA terminology, actually!

The terms seemed designed to encourage separatism because they were created by a trans woman separatist movement.

I talk about it more here (with sources), but TME/TMA was used first in about 2017, in association with the Baeddelism movement and ideologies. And Baeddels were(/are) just lesbian separatists for trans women.

So it's less that transfem separatism might emerge from "TME/TMA"-type thinking, and more that the terms emerged from transfem separatism, and continue to support that exact same type of thinking by nature of what they imply, how they're used, and who is using them the most.

I'm for trans men having gender-affirming marks on identification and paperwork and still being able to access OBGYN and pregnancy care, and contraceptives.

I'm for all men's restrooms including baby changing stations, because fathers exist and need to change their babies.

I'm for black men having a voice and being seen and heard, and not assumed to be predators for being both black and men.

I'm for fathers gaining custody of their children in the face of a court system which favors the mother, stating that a child should "never be without their mother," granting custody to even the abusive mothers while taking it away from their fathers.

I'm for boys receiving both 'boy' sex education and 'girl' sex education, so they know how periods and pregnancy actually work.

I'm for boys and men giving and receiving emotional checkups, hugs, and everything soft because boys and men both deserve softness. Boys and men deserve to express their emotions healthily. To know how to express emotions healthily.

Men deserve access to care, patience, love and kindness.

Except these are two different things?

Transandrophobia language is used to speak on experiences we have as trans men/mascs. Similarly to how transmisogyny language is used to speak on trans women's/fem's experiences.

TMA/TME language is about labelling more than just your experiences, but labeling other people's experiences for them. I would have a similar problem with if there were trans men/mascs pushing for transandrophobia affected vs. exempt language.

Yall know that “toxic masculinity” refers to expressions of masculinity that are toxic, right? it doesn’t imply that all masculinity is toxic- it’s used to talk about like, how people will repress their emotions aside from anger in order to seem “manly”, and how they might act in violent or self-destructive ways because that is what society expects of men.

masculinity is not inherently toxic. it hasn’t been poisoned or corrupted. it is a neutral concept, a kind of gender presentation, and it doesn’t make you a bad, unhealthy, or toxic person to be masculine.

masculinity does not need to be “soft” to be acceptable, it can just be neutral. because it is not toxic, just sometimes expressed in toxic ways or for toxic reasons.

Like when white women fake cry to win arguments, or to appear to be the victim (despite how much damage they may have caused), or when female abusers point to their femininity as a reason they couldn’t possibly be hurting anyone. Or when the girls in school weaponize their performances of femininity against more androgynous, less traditionally attractive, or more masculine girls.

Plenty of cis women have a similarly toxic relationship to femininity as cis men do to masculinity. A good example of a less material expression might be the tendency to self-martyr, using the “caregiver” role to guilt trip and gaslight, and abuse in a more manipulative, emotional/mental way than the physical aggression more typical with toxic masculinity.

The patriarchy rewards gender conformity, and requires cis people of both genders to uphold it. Cis women are at a structural disadvantage to cis men regardless, but can absolutely gain more social power by adhering more strictly to traditional femininity- and weaponize that power against others.
