The "do you believe in god?" "I like the concept" line breaks my heart. how many times has Cassie reached out to religion and it didn't work, how many people told her she just wasn't trying hard enough? how many times has she sat and cried because she felt forgotten by god, or, even worse, abandoned, because that suggests an active decision not to help her was made, like she was just too broken for salvation. I wonder if she grew up religious and eventually lost faith, or if her most desperate moments drove her to at least try, and even then, she was left hanging.

It also shows how good of a person she truly is, and how sincerely she cares about people, because she didn't have religion to cope with her addiction. There was no book telling her what she should be, how and why to become a better person. She just... chose to do it, even if just for her son, just like she chose to be a doctor so she could be, to others, the helping hand she once needed but didn't have. It takes so much strength, but above all, love, to go through all that she has, and still make an effort to be compassionate and kind despite it all. I love Cassie Mckay so much it makes me sick!!!
