You smelt like teenage love and I loved the scent it left on my pillow Like every wrong thing was suddenly right And my mother warned me not to fall in love She told me “never give your heart away” But she saw me walk through the door in your old t-shirt Smelling like flowers right after they bloom And a smile that shined like the sun after rain But she held me and said “love will break you. It will rip you in two” But no clouds covered my face and she swore I was crazy and I swore right there with her And when I came home smelling like raindrops she held me but i stopped her before she could say I told you so I told her that love doesn’t break you in two but rather pieces back the brokenness to make a whole And I swore that love never broke me Never scarred me It only touched me in a way that the heart break broke me in two

I think in another lifetime we could be something spectacular Something like the sun or even the moon Maybe even our own galaxy And I feel like the universe is trying so hard to push our two souls into something as beautiful as the Milky Way But I’m beginning to think that maybe all you are in this lifetime is the rain after the sun And the storm after the calm And even though I find myself dancing in the rain every time it pours I don’t think that our souls are meant for this lifetime
