" i mean... " doris had never thought any of it through, not in the slightest. she was sure that when she had joined in for battle, taking a clear side with the order under the agreement it would remain under wraps that it would. now all she could think of was if that list was true and what would happen if the wrong person got their hands on it. " are we even sure its real? it could all be fake... "
he shrugged a little, leaning back into the armchair a little as he took a long swig of his drink. “ i’ve done worse for less. i’m not looking for a pity party. the only thing i’m looking for is for people to get off my back about it. nothing they can do to change it now. ” but he knew it was merely wishful thinking. no matter what he did or how long he’d been around the order he would only ever be just one thing- the thief. the kind of guy they’d never trust with a god damn rock. might as well not sweat the minor details, or the collateral damage.
she understood, while doris had never come close to the same situation a part of her thought that sympathetically she could understand and she did. there were no pity parties to found, generally they seemed miserable anyway but that was regardless. there was no changing the past, even with magic it held consequences, the best thing to do always seemed to be moving forward. " there are much worse things in the world, i think we've all seen 'em by now. "
an eerie silence seemed to fall over the headquarters of the order. the possibility of there being a list out there that could out every single one of them had tensions at an all time high. still, sirius was ultimately a man of ACTION when it came down to it. which is why he was one of the first to break the silence with his own voice. “ so.. do you think it’s true? “ he asked, asking anyone in the room that would choose to answer.
for someone who had joined the order on the conditions that it was kept completely silent, this list was what doris had been dreading. she feared the safety of her family, like many others, in the case that there was some truth to the rumors. it would completely change the game and that itself was terrifying in a seemingly unwinnable war. " it can't be... who would even know all that? "
“you hadn’t noticed the shrieking children?” he asked, chuckling. “i mean, even more than usual, that is. i love kids, don’t get me wrong. but it’s a lot.”
“ i have, most of it slipped my mind i suppose. stuck in thought y’know? “ she happened to get distracted often but that was besides the point. “ i suppose i need to pay more attention. “
a soft smile crosses the man’s face at the excitement that is shown over her job. he’d always admired when someone had PASSION about things in their life. while he didn’t personally have that sort of feeling for a career or profession, it was certainly admirable that she did. he could almost go on to say that her fervor was actually kind of adorable to witness. he let out a deep sigh in reaction to doris’s words. “ i was afraid that you were going to say that, “ he responded. then his nose wrinkled into disgust at the suggestion of a cat. “ a kitten? “ he questioned. sirius firmly shook his head in disagreement, “ they already have one of those demons wandering around. i’m not about to make it two. “
fire whiskey was not the right choice, maybe a little too strong for a still somewhat good day but stressful day. too late to turn back now. all the exhausting or stressful days with baby dragons had always been worth it, something that she had dreamed of since she was a kid would ever cease to be worth it. " i'm sorry to let you down but it would not be fair to keep a dragon as a pet! and i am not sure if you're friends would appreciate losing their curtains to small fires. " he wasn't the first person to ask and certainly wouldn't be the last but doris knew that she'd only get sirius in trouble in the unlikely case of agreement. " did the kitty hurt your feelings? "
“i still remember how much you talked about wanting to do this when we were at hogwarts and well, here we are now. it’s crazy to think about how long ago that was even though it still feels like yesterday. i guess i’m feeling very NOSTALGIC lately.” she’d blame in on the hormones, but alice knew it was more than that being caught in the middle of a war often made her think of the things she cherished the most, and her friendship with doris was easily one of them. “well, if he’s anything like his father… then i’m sure he’ll be begging to go by the time he’s five. but we’ll see about that. and what you’re doing at that point. who knows, you could be working with the adult dragons by then. do you think you ever would ?”
" sometimes childhood dreams really work out, i'm sure i gave my mum a scare with that. she was so worried, i think she's warmed up to it now. nostalgia has been hitting pretty hard lately, we're not old but... kind of miss being kids. " being an adult had it's perks she supposed and regardless of how old they got it always brightened her day a bit to see alice. " you know i would love to take him one day, with proper safety measures of course. maybe he'll love it jsut as much as i do, who knows? " the girl remarked with a smile, excited at the idea of teaching her honorary nephew about magical creatures some day. " eventually but for now i quite enjoy the babies and roman. he was the only one i've seen past a year old, i think he might be my favorite. "
i had written this all out before and my crap computer deleted it so here we go a lot shorter than before because i’m tired as all hell
doris dresses very 70s inspired via stevie nicks, teen style, very toned down jackie burkhart and if rachel green was in the 70s instead of 90s tho i think doris would adore the 90s

“i’ve pretty much exclusively been seeing kids and their parents in and around diagon alley these days. can’t lie, a solo adult is a bit of a sight for sore eyes.”
" oh , i didn't even notice. " doris had been far too distracted by her shopping list but she supposed that he had a point, diagon alley was almost always flooded with families shopping but she was far from that. " i suppose you're right not many solo individuals around. "
“ really? “ he responded to her remark with a raised brow. “ because personally i think that working with dragons would be pretty awesome. “ that might’ve been something that sirius had chosen to do as a profession, had he the desire to lock down something akin to a career. but, as it were, sirius hadn’t really liked the idea of having to settle with one thing for the rest of his life. his mind soon traveled back to the topic of dragons, however. “ say.. how easy do you reckon’ it’d be to get a baby dragon? i think that would be a pretty brilliant gift for a kid to receive from his godfather. “ not that harry’s parents would agree.. well at least not lily.
" it is! i love them more than anything but the little ones are a lot of work. burn everything in sight, not on purpose of course, sometimes they get too excited and spit fire. " she wouldn't have traded her job for anything, since her second year of hogwarts dragon keeping was what doris had wanted to do for the rest of her life and it was exciting to do so. everything had its cons though and burnt fingers was one of them. " impossible. baby dragons are not pets or baby friendly! precious sentiment but i would not recommend it. maybe a kitten? they don't grow to the size of houses. "
dramatically, the male lets his gaze sweep from one end of the bar to the other. “ now, I know that i didn’t see dorcas come in here with you, “ he spoke, “ so who could this be for? “ lips quirk into a light smirk then, glint of mischief in his eyes. “ what are you buying this for some bloke then? who should be so lucky? “ despite his teasing words, the male handed over the firewhiskey as requested as he waited for her to answer the question.
it was an expected reaction not that doris took offense, on this rare occasion dorcas was not by her side leading the way through the familiar bar ordering fire whiskey after fire whiskey. " you're a riot, sirius. truly, " the girl offers a smile, almost surprised she had ordered something so strong for herself as well. " no lucky boys, 'm afraid dorcas might be rubbin' off on me. long day in the company of dragons will wear you out, not always fun. "
gareth was on his way out of the shop — an overdue lunch break that he was determined to enjoy outdoors — when he felt himself collide with another body. a little excited, are we? he thought, reprimanding himself. “oh, merlin ! ’m sorry. totally my fault.” sheepishly, he rubbed the back of his neck. “suppose i wasn’t paying much attention to where i was going … i’ve gotta say, i’m surprised to see you in my little corner of the world, though.”
doris had not been paying enough attention to her situation, still distracted with her mind unable to leave the topic of the long day at work. “ oh no! don’t worry it’s partially mine for sure, “ the girl states stepping back to give them space. “ oh? why is that? “
