Y'all are so sweet about me learning to crochet!

The main reason I’m learning is to replace the blanket pictured. My grandma made it a long time ago (not sure when. She is now 90 and has dementia so she doesn’t recall when she made it) and gave it to me when my dad and I moved her from her home to assisted living. I was really dumb and let my friend borrow it along with some other blankets and some of my favorite books (he had just moved to Portland and had nothing but was moving into a rental house and it was winter). Well the house he was renting burned down two days ago. Thus, he lost everything besides his laptop and phone and I lost everything I lent him. So I am learning to crochet in an attempt to make a new granny square blanket. I’m really sad about losing the one my grandma made though.

@octothorpeisareason yeah I had someone come over to teach me and the concepts make sense to me but making my hands hold things correctly and then execute the concepts while maintaining decent tension is a struggle for me. Plus the hook felt clunky. I mean it's a bit different from knitting and I've been doing that for 13 years. Might be easier if I didn't have hella bad habits. ;) @gracelandmomma it's always fun to try something new and then be super humbled by how difficult it is! I also wanted my post to make crocheters feel fucking legit because you guys are!!! I've seen knitters talk made shit about crochet and I think that might be because they haven't tried it. Idk. Just want to give credit to people making cool shit!

Knit a stitch, crochet a row, make just a little progress on your current project. If you don’t have a project find a pattern, even if it’s just to stare at it in longing. Just a little progress every day keeps your project from falling into dust and disinterest.

Normally, I would just not attempt to sell anything knitted this time of year, but I’m hurting for money and need to clear some inventory.

I have been fretting about this too for a while. then i remember my first knitted hat was sold to Alaska in July, so i figure why not?

Without knowing whether you have FOs or a stash with a wide variety of fiber content I really can’t say, but if we’re assuming you mean selling things in person, a few thoughts…:

Cotton and linen are great wearable fibers for summer. They’re light and cool. Plant fibers in general are nice for then.

Non-wearable things like fancy dishcloths, tableware, jewelry, amigurumis if you’re into those…?

Market as early Xmas/holiday gifts. You don’t even necessarily have to wait until July for “Christmas in July”, but that’s a good excuse!
