Also a reminder that they had only met about 8 weeks prior to this, if you go by the dates in John’s blog. They had known one another 8 weeks and they were willing to die together.

^^^ That shocked me when I looked up the timeline. The entire first series takes place in that tiny space. That’s how little it took for John Watson to undo Sherlock’s heart completely.

Also a reminder that John unconditionally offered Sherlock his phone upon the first (!) time he EVER saw him and on the second (!) day he unquestioningly killed a man to rescue Sherlock. And never told anyone, (except Sherlock, who of course deduced it). That’s how even less time it took for Sherlock Holmes to undo John Watson’s heart completely.
