So, anybody who’s been interested in astrology has probably faced some skepticism from others when they share it. For anybody who considers astrology as a passion, it can be quite frustrating, and quite hurtful at times. If anything, most of us want to prove skeptics wrong by pulling up their birth chart to prove the astrological accuracy we all love. But we can struggle doing this for the following reasons:
Astrology is an Aquarian practice. Think of Aquarius as a sign. It’s peculiar, unique, and generally seen as weird. Aquarius is the abnormal, the opposite of the norm. Astrology happens to fall as an Aquarian practice. With that being said, astrology wouldn’t be the astrology we know and love if people generally accepted it. In an era of rising technology, sciences, and logic, most people would argue that astrology is bogus.
Astrology itself isn’t subjective, the interpretation is. Astrology itself is neutral. However, the people who interpret astrology are not neutral, and that is because we all have different, beautiful birth charts that affects our biases and perceptions. And I haven’t even added our experiences into the mix. Due to the fact that people perceive astrology differently, you could hear many slightly different interpretations from different astrologers - and due to the variation, people aren’t going to believe it. That’s why they say astrology is only as good as the astrologer.
People don’t know what astrology really is. For example, many people tend to think that astrology places 7 billions people into only 12 signs when there’s actually more combinations of natal charts than people in this world. Some people wouldn’t even know what a natal chart is. People don’t really know what astrology is because… well, they don’t study it. And there’s so many other arguments skeptics can make, and their arguments are wrong because… well, they don’t study astrology!
Astrology is in a way, a philosophy. Technically speaking, astrology could be a branch under metaphysics, which is a branch of philosophy. Whether it’s a philosophy or not, astrology can function as a philosophy. Have you ever tried to get your friends into astrology, but they just don’t get it like you do? The same goes for philosophy. In order to learn astrology or “learn” philosophy, the person has learn themselves and go on a journey of discovery. We can try to guide them and teach them, but in the end, they have to truly learn the practice for themselves. There’s actually a term for this: The Socratic method.
And the reason why I’m stating all of these things is while you are completely free to argue about astrology all you want with others, the argument is usually often very futile, for the reasons stated above.
Although it’s a little painful to see people bash on something that’s helped you find who you are and so many other things, at least it’s a beautiful little secret you can keep to yourself since you can’t share it. Astrology is such a powerful practice, and it’s best to leave it into the hands of people who believe it so they can use it ethically.
If you have any more reasons or input, feel free to add stuff! :)
