Pokemon are based on real Pokemon I have across SWSH, SCAR/VIO, and games I've had as a kid (yes, including the legendaries)
I'm an adult, but since this blog is to be chill, the only nsfw you might see is talking about Pokemon mating practices, occasional swearing, and romantic talk (poke character crushes but nothing crazy)
Isn't it dangerous to keep steel and grass type Pokemon with your fire types?? Like, they could get hurt easily! No matter how well-trained your fire type mons are, accidents happen...
Hello! Excellent question! Yes, it is dangerous, I've experienced my fair share of mishaps when it comes to conflicting types between my Pokemon, however, I've had them for a long time and, with gained expirience, know how to place them so conflict is minimal at this point.
First, you need to consider what jobs each Pokemon has and where they're placed. Each of my grass-type Pokemon assists in lab work; 'Pillsbury' helps in transport jobs and typically works in other non-critical environments that keep them away from bug and fire types alike. I pretty much never have them and my Centiskorch or Galvantula in the same room, especially alone. 'Guns' is the only one used in actual tests, but this is heavily monitored and mainly used to measure move power, either she grows material to be burned, or uses moves expected to be countered as scales for measurment. (also, there are grass type specialists on the campus who I ask for advice)
Similar to the grass types, my steel types are managed accordingly. 'Luca' and 'Tinks' assist around the lab rather than directly with tests, 'Tinks' even repairs our equipment if it gets particularly melted.
With my main team, 'Gatsu' is mainly paired with 'Baby' due to the type durability (insert joke about knight and dragon here). The thing that makes my main team stand out with their closeness is that most of them basically grew up together and have more combat experience together. There's more cooperation than not amidst the group, so I have significantly more trust between them than my other Pokemon. They know each other's strengths and limitations, including my managment in all that, and I've had this team pretty under control for years now.
'OSHA' is the biggest outlier of my group, as he was a gift and is very much still a baby. I'm using the resources available here to get a feel for his biology and general health, but then I might take him off the roster and send him home. I do have a Trevenant to watch him when I'm not there, so I think he'll be fine.
To sum up, I organize my Pokemon in a way that limits type conflict both within my own team and when it comes to lab work. Yes, there are undesirable occurrences and accidents, but we also have the resources to treat them here.
