i love seamus and im gonna tell u why: hes real smart like? so damn curious and unapologetically eager to learn interesting facts? my hc is that he was borderline ravenclaw 100% he LOVES experimenting especially with pyrotechnics ;) and he’s rlly skilled like he managed to conjure a patronus at 15 without much difficulty and hes BRAVE!!! so damn brave. he was so fucking scared like……….just the thought of a terrifying psychopathic dictator rising from the dead and taking hold again was enough to give him LITERAL NIGHTMARES. this is totally not justifying his 180 turn on poor harry in ootp like he was a lil shit doing that smh but boy — whilst it isnt exactly excusable i can at least UNDERSTAND it ?????? a bit???? and god it took him a while like,,,,his stubbornness and pride are two of his major character flaws,,,,to actually confront the fact that he was terrified and to recognise that his denial was essentially contributing to one of his closest friends feelings of isolation???? was SO HARD and such a major character arc. for him man? once he was able to look past that which wasnt easy he was caught up in this rebellion group which gave him a way to FOCUS that fear! into fighting, into standing up and pushing back in the hopes that nobody would EVER feel so terrified as to turn on those you cared about in the same way that he did again. he was SO DETERMINED to achieve this. it became quite an unhealthy coping mechanism tbh bc my boy is so impulsive and hyperactive and he expresses himself so physically all the time like? he was so beaten up by the carrows bc throwing fists and hexes became just a way of coping with that STRESS. of the whole situation plus dean not being there and ugh? my poor lil gay :(

it is not in seamus’s nature to fall in love easily . his homosexuality is something he does not come to terms with well, and it is what led to him becoming significantly emotionally stunted as well as falling back on humour as a coping mechanism . he was brought up in a catholic influenced family, surrounded by a well sculpted hetero-normative environment , forcing him from a young age to view marrying a woman as ‘normal’, the ideal . every boy crush was conflicted against internalised homophobia created by his upbringing and the country he lived in . you cannot fall in love healthily without accepting yourself for who you are, and that is something seamus needed to achieve before even thinking of pursuing a relationship ( whether that was with dean or not ) .

it was the war that changed him . sitting in his dorm alone after several brutal carrow punishments forced him to face the possibility that he may never get to tell anyone about such a huge part of his identity, that he may die without allowing himself to love , leave his family and take his secret to the grave - they would never know about how he struggled . i believe that when he reunited with dean he told him, straight (aha) away . whether that was done verbally or through expressing his love for him ( ie. slow-motion-heartfelt-kiss-trope.jpg ) is something that i and someone who writes dean would need to discuss *wink wonk* . either way , that was the first step of many seamus took to self-acceptance . next was telling his family and friends , in which had a mixture of responses i won’t go into now . but of course seamus had to recover and rest and heal from the events of the war, everything was put on hold for a moment . a relationship is something he would not ( and should not ) indulge in in his post-traumatised condition . seamus would not fall in love healthily until he had achieved complete acceptance and recovery , and that took years .
