13/100 Days of Productivity
So, I got the flu. Yes, those are my feet wrapped in a blanket on the table. My bed is unmade, but I’m posting it for the aesthetic. Because I can. Anyway. Biology is great. Biology is good. I’m obsessed with watching Doctor Mike on youtube, it’s a problem. Reading is still (barely) getting done.

I’m having a lot of fun editing my photos in lightroom (and I think I have finally found my own style, idk at least it feels right). I don’t have a lot of homework to do these days so I try to really fill my free time doing things that bring me with joy and happiness, i.g reading, watching movies and learning languages.
Tbh I really don’t like my desk (it’s an old one). But I can’t afford buying a new one 😢 By the way, I’m renting a flat with the girl from the third year. It’s a small and cozy studio. I’m so so grateful that I don’t live in dormitories cause they’re absolutely awful. Although being in the same room with another human being 24/7 makes me feel drained (guess who’s an introvert). I need to find a way to cope with it since we’re gonna live together for at least a year, ohh
P.S can someone recommend me youtubers who are doing vlogtobers (except for sunbeamsjess and estee lalonde)? thanks in advance) I absolutely love vlogtobers!!! I’ve been watching Jess’ for years now)
Anyway, I hope everyone’s having a good day 💖
69 degrees and breezy, finally wearing my summer blazer and a scarf… life is beautiful again

It’s sad how much of what is taught in school is useless to over 99% of the population.
There are literally math concepts taught in high school and middle school that are only used in extremely specialized fields or that are even so outdated they aren’t used anymore!
I took calculus my senior year of high school, and I really liked the way our teacher framed this on the first day of class.
He asked somebody to raise their hand and ask him when we would use calculus in our everyday life. So one student rose their hand and asked, “When are we going to use this in our everyday life?”
“NEVER!!” the teacher exclaimed. “You will never use calculus in your normal, everyday life. In fact, very few of you will use it in your professional careers either.” Then he paused. “So would you like to know why should care?”
Several us nodded.
He picked out one of the varsity football players in the class. “You practice football a lot during the week, right Tim?” asked the teacher.
“Yeah,” replied Tim. “Almost every day.”
“Do you and your teammates ever lift weights during practice?”
“Yeah. Tuesdays and Thursdays we spend a lot of practice in the weight room.”
“But why?” asked the teacher. “Is there ever going to be a play your coach tells you use during a game that requires you to bench press the other team?”
“No, of course not.”
“Then why lift weights?”
“Because it makes us stronger,” said Tim.
“Bingo!!” said the teacher. “It’s the same thing with calculus. You’re not here because you’re going to use calculus in your everyday life. You’re here because calculus is weightlifting for your brain.”
And I’ve never forgotten that.
THIS.
When it’s taught right, learning math teaches you logic and how to organize your brain, how to take a problem one step at a time and make sure every step can bear weight before you move to the next one. Most adults don’t need to know integrals, but goddamn if I don’t wish everyone making arguments on the internet understood geometric proofs.
Scientific concepts broaden our understanding of how the world is put together, which does not mean that most adults ever really understand how light is refracted through a lens or why spinning copper wire creates electricity–and they don’t need to. But science classes in general are meant to teach the scientific method: how to make observations and use them to draw conclusions, how to test those conclusions, how to be wrong and grow stronger from it.
History isn’t about dates and names of battles, it’s about people, patterns, things we’ve tried before and ought to learn from. It’s about how everything is linked, how changing one circumstance can lead to changes in fifty others, cascading infinitely. Literature is about critical thinking, pattern recognition, learning to listen to what somebody is saying and decide what it means to you, how you feel about it, and what you want to do with it.
Some facts matter: every adult should know how to read a graph, how global warming works, some of the basic themes and symbols that crop up in every piece of fiction. But ultimately, content is less important later in life than context.
The good thing is, students who learn the content are likely to pick up at least some of the context, some of the patterns of thinking, even if they don’t realize it. (The unfortunate thing is how the current educational system prioritizes content so much that a lot of students, and a lot of adults, don’t see the point in learning either, and teachers are overworked and held to standardize test grading scales such that it’s hard for them to emphasize patterns of thinking over rote memorization, etc etc etc, but that is a whole different discussion.)
thank u <3
I never knew I needed to read something so much until I read this
My problem is that I’ll randomly get really motivated to do shit, but it’s within such a small window of time that I must do the thing at that EXACT moment and if I don’t the moment passes and I’ll have to wait like at least whole month for another random burst of motivation to do the thing ya feel
old photos + cozy nights. 🌙🧡

Please read if you’re a student
You are NOT PROCRASTINATING, if - you’re sick - you have headache - you feel pain - you’re exhausted - you feel anxious - you have had big changes in your life that make you feel tired/restless/anxious/sad - you have to skip a class/take rest because of reasons I mentioned above. It’s not procrastinating. You’re not lazy. Everyone needs to have rest and take care of themselves when they’re sick. IT IS NOT OKAY TO WORK IN PAIN. Don’t burn out. It’s not worth it. Do not feel guilty. After some rest and relaxing you will study even more effectively. If you feel pain, - take a medicine if it works for you - put all of your books away - take warm shower - eat at least 1 healthy thing and 1 treat/feel-good-food, drink water - go to bed, sleep or read a book/listen to music that is not related to your school (if you have headache/migraine I suggest you to switch off the lights and just sleep) - just take your time - it’ll be all okay.

Some Tips and Tricks for School
So I’m about for weeks into school now and I’ve come across a few things that might be of some help.
1. Citationsy
This is a citation chrome extension that someone created to replace RefMe after it changed to CiteThisForMe. It’s so simple and efficient to use. You can create multiple projects, and choose which formating type you need (APA, MLA, etc.)
It also allows you to change the font to OpenDyslexic (without already having it downloaded) and there is a “night mode” available.
A tip: open a new google tab and click on the extension to open the main screen.
2. OpenDyslexic
OpenDyslexic and its Chrome Extension
I found this a while ago, and many of you probably already know about it, but a friend of a friend thinks their daughter is dyslexic so I scrounged around the internet to find it again.
3. BeeLine Reader
BeeLine Reader was another one I found. It’s a gradient reader that can be used on any website for easy reading, but if I’m not mistaken you can apply OpenDyslexic to that as well.
4. Free Online Textbooks
If you live in Ontario, Canada there might be an online version of your textbook. Either way it’s good to check it out and see if your city/province/country has something similar.
5. Sans Forgetica
I’ve mentioned this before, but omg it actually works and I’ve used for study notes and its a total lifesaver. Here’s the link.
6. A TedTalk
I found this Talk a while ago, but I totally loved it and it’s all about Why Handwriting Matters.
7. BlackBoard
I don’t know about other schools, but mine uses a website called BlackBoard. Professors can upload Powerpoints, input calendars and test dates, assign homework, etc. all for students to access. And if you use it too: it has an app for your phone and laptop!
8. Email!!!
Connect your email to your phone and laptop. It’s a lifesaver. Like seriously check your email regularly, set up notifications, you will not regret it.
9. Keyboard Shortcuts That Could Save Your Life
ctrl + x = cut
ctrl + c = copy
ctrl + v = paste
ctrl + a = highlights entire text
ctrl + f = find
ctrl + b = bold
ctrl + i = italics
ctrl + u = underline
ctrl + s = save
ctrl + z = undo
ctrl + y = redo
ctrl + shift + > = increase font size
ctrl + shift + < = decrease font size
ctrl + shift + arrow keys = highlight one word at a time
ctrl + arrow keys = skips back a word at a time
ctrl + L = inserts bullet points (doesn’t always work the way I want it to, but it works in Sticky Notes)
Anyway, that’s all for today.

hello lovelies
sorry for being so MIA for a while! life has thrown its yearly fit at me and ive been dealing with a lot if i’m honest! from failing a unit at university to discovering cancer in my dad - it’s been a wild ride. everything is settling down for now but this is a gentle reminder that it is OK to NOT be ok and to take time away from the hustle and bustle of life to just breathe, do shit for yourself and chill the fuck out 🖤
