my new art for the Soft Launch album 💙🤍💜

all nerdy rant below

dnp and team reached out to me with a new concept for dnpb album. Their prompt was essentially “podcast set, but cosy”.

They sent me a couple of ideas that solidified a clear image in my mind. Their pitches were “lounging on an inflatable sofa” “including the lava lamp” “retro imac w/ album title” and most importantly, “Richard balls”

Now, if you noticed, I drew the “plastic pendant light” thingy hanging from the top, but I removed it at the final render. Simply, it didn’t mesh with the rest of the background, so I removed it.

So the elements I added to their ideas were using the pod set as flooring; they wanted to chill among clouds, so I made the lava blobs float like clouds. Now I know the rocket and lava goo look a bit phallic, but what do you expect from a dnp project?

Binary gay stars orbiting each other or whatever in the background: that's what dnp’s souls do when the world ends.

Coloring: I wanted to convey a well air conditioned room, and blue is a lazy relaxed color.

Posing: relaxed, chill, comfortable. Cute with an attitude.

Team Rocket Grunt Corbeau

Giovanni was trying to gain a foothold in Kalos. He found Corbeau and offers him a job. He likes the look in his eyes. Plus he knows the streets. And a poor kid on the streets will jump at the promise of money. All Corbeau needed to do is follow Giovanni's orders and swear his loyalty.

I'd imagine Corbeau to be more of an espionage type of roll. He tracks people down with his Ekans and reports any important news going on in Kalos.

So I did two versions. One with a subtle R and one that's more in your face. And of course I had to include the inverted Y that represents Venipede. Plus in the subtle design it hopefully draws your attention to the R.

He rocks the white too.

I think he rocks the Team Rocket fit. No wonder he continued to use the aesthetic.
