THE OLD GUARD (2020) THE OLD GUARD 2 (2025)
I’ve decided it’s fine if there isn’t an old guard 3 but I do need Marwan and Luca to star in a romcom as two characters named Joe and Nicky
Gnawing at the bars of my enclosure for a third movie

#this is the nicolo thesis right here! right here!!!#the sharpness of his gaze his quiet rancor the curl of his mouth around a hiss#and then the rage. you see it twice in the movie both times because joe is hurt#i know it’s The Racismé but it is just BAFFLING to me that people think JOE is the aggressively protective one#joe kills keane with resigned exhaustion. he kills keane for himself. because keane made him crawl over to nicky’s unmoving body#made him consider even for a minute that nicky was dead. after hours of watching him strapped to a gurney. out of reach#while someone carved pieces of him and joe could only watch#but nicky’s anger when joe is hurt or in danger is so immediate and reflexive#when merrick stabs joe nicky THROWS himself towards them. would put his body between joe and the blade if he wasn’t restrained#just as he does every night when he puts himself and his gun between joe and the door#on the kill floor he is so ANGRY and until his eyes meet joe’s that anger is ALL there is#only after nonverbal confirmation that joe is with him again does he melt back into the cold composed warrior he is#all this to say! still to this day! after 900 years! knowing most things cannot hurt joe - at least not physically not lastingly#it is in nicky’s PROGRAMMING to not let any harm come to him#<shakes fist at the sky> PROTECTOOORRRRR#yeah i feel insane now#nicky feral garbage cat theory <3 @lgbtmazight
These two make me sick
I love it
A crime was committed against me. The video interview of Luca Marinelli and Alessandro Borghi was set on autodub and my ears were assaulted by an Italian accented English that was not Marinelli or Borghi in my ears.
Thankfully, I can turn it off.
The video was from the panel they did earlier this month during the Claudio Caligari screening day at Palazzo San Lorenzo.
Luca, release your pictures!
Recent Luca tings.
Nicky could’ve been angrier, actually
Something I’d like to point out about this whole exchange amongst the team is how Joe and Nicky approach expressing the same opinion regarding Nile. They are both united in their stance that finding her is the thing they need to do, but their responses to pushback (from Booker primarily) are very distinctive.
Joe is the first to outright say they have to find Nile. He’s direct, firm, and concise. And his tone in the second gif is bordering on anger at the implication that they leave one of their own vulnerable. He’s protective and determined, and after this point continues sketching out Nile’s face, undeterred.
Nicky also calls Booker out, but focuses on appealing to the team’s empathy. You can see that not only did he feel the pain of Nile’s death, he also keenly sympathizes with her fear and it comes through in his voice and all across his face. He’s gentle but steady when reminding them of what they already know they should do.
They’re both ultimately saying the same things, but in their own characteristic, complementary ways. And I know a lot is said about Nicky’s compassion (and rightfully so), but I also wanted to highlight that Joe is just as compassionate (in this example, towards Nile’s situation), it just manifests differently.
