@queen-sandi
Love yourself the way you love your favorite song, completely, without apology, on repeat.
Phantom pain absolutely sucks!!!!
This is very difficult post, but decided to do it anyways. This is from 2019 before being diagnosed with osteosarcoma and having my left leg amputated. From 2019 and not a care in the world, had a boyfriend and loving life
we need to stop putting disabled people on a pedestal as “inspiration” and as these perfect specimens right meow
Amen!!
Some of y'all take ur frustrations with ur disabilities and drs out on other disabled ppl and to that i say: u are not cripplepunk no matter how disabled u are if u do that shit. Also fuck you
Disability is not a dirty word. Me calling myself disabled is not me insulting myself. I am using a word that describes the fact I am not able-bodied.
Louder for the people in the back
Looking like the queen that I am
Soaking up rays
Honesty who the fuck takes up 2 disabled spots by parking in the in-between lines and have no blue badge, apparently this one woman I saw today
Wanna piss me off, take up disabled parking when you shouldn't
something very important for everyone to know, but especially disabled people, is that you are always allowed to say no to doctors. In the US, legally, unless you've been deemed unable to make your own medical decisions, you can say no to anything. Even if you don't have a "good enough" reason to. Even if it's objectively the best treatment option. Even if the doctor tells you that you don't have a choice. Even if it's completely routine and non-invasive. Even if saying no will result in your death. In the words of a nurse I spoke to recently "we're taught in medical school that if we put a stethoscope on you after you tell us no, that counts as assault".
If you don't want something, say no. If they won't listen to your no, walk out. I can't guarantee that doctors will always respect your rights but I can guarantee that you do have that right. Your body is yours and that doesn't change when you enter a doctor's office or hospital. It can also help to have a friend or family member with you, especially if you're young and/or have a history of not being taken seriously when you express non-consent.
It's never enough for disabled people to just be average. Can't just be a person getting along like any other person. We have to justify our existence with lofty dreams and planned out goals and huge unrealised potential just waiting for the abled world to tap into. If they ask you what your goals are and you say "to make rent this month" or "to attend all my appointments", there's a silence that tells you that was the wrong answer.
Not good enough. No feel-good-feelings for the stranger. No KPIs to meet for the state or the support service. Not good enough. Aspire more. Inspire more. Otherwise, what's the point of the state and supports keeping us alive?

Intro:
I'm Sandi, 25 years old and from Nairobi. I love the beach and the water, hanging with friends and going to the spa for massages and getting my nails done. In 2019 I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and have to my left leg amputated above the knee
