A quick bit of meta on a Saturday afternoon - not intending to sub-tweet anyone (I’ve been thinking about this for a while) and I think the memes are funny so don’t stop making them! 

This isn’t a post about Simon’s possible ADHD or autism, but I like the way we can re-frame him by thinking about those conditions and how they might affect him. 

This is just about whether Simon is indeed as dumb of ass as the memes tell us.

Just Some Thoughts I Have on Trends in Carry On and Wayward Son Fanfiction

Listen ok ok ok i’m just tired of some people demeaning Simon all the time just cuz all the readers are horny for handsome vampire dude. It is ok to love Baz for any number of reasons. It is ok to not like Simon for any number of reasons. That is your business. But let Simon be a handsome, buff, confused swordfighting 18-year-old, as he is in the text of Carry On. Let him gain weight because he underwent severe psychological trauma without a mental health support system. Please, DO NOT sexualize his weight gain. DO NOT treat him as “lesser” or “worse” during Wayward Son because of the struggles he goes through mentally, socially, or magically. And NEVER treat him as if he is incomplete without his magic. It is totally fine to write a fic where he regains his magic, but it is NOT ok to treat him as if he was broken without it and to hinge the story’s resolution on him “becoming complete” because he once again has access to his magic. Change and loss are realities of life, and regardless how important the things or people we lose are to us, we will never be incomplete or become imperfect for lack of them.

Bringing this back since 2020 is the worst and Axis Powers has been confirmed to be coming back. These aren’t a case of death of the author/being able to separate artist from their work. The ENTIRE POINT of these is advocating for eugenics, racial fetishization/superiority, fascism, and nazi sympathizing.
