Anders blowing up the chantry but not just the political statement part but the 'how does he contend with that as an Andrastian' part.

Like, the likenesses of Andraste and her priests and the priceless items in the reliquary - do any of them follow the real world Catholicism belief that the Thing is God (as with holy communion?) Does Anders watch the statues tumble or close his eyes and imagine them burning and think about how he isn't even Hessarian, putting Andraste to the sword, but is instead the author of the flame? Like wow some kind of blasphemy it must be to burn Andraste again. How do you contend with that - it's such an intense and final slide into eternal condemnation. And for a Grey Warden??? Who already knows what separation from the Maker feels like down to the marrow. To know that it isn't just for now but for forever? Fuuuuuck man.

It had to be done. Someone had to do it to save everyone. He's sitting on that stupid box like Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane except the sacrifice is already over and no one is coming to assume him into heaven. He's already dead and he always has been and will be forever. The story was only ever going to end one kind of way.

There's also something there about, thanks to anders and the rebellion, the 'original sin' of being born a mage is forgiven forever with the formation of the college of enchanters/cementing of mage freedom that appears canon thanks to DAV's change of mage seniority rituals. Mages aren't born in sin anymore. Anders is literally Jesus. And then they refused to engage with him ever again in the sequels. Aha, ahaha.

honestly I love that Anders falls in love with Hawke whether you romance him or not but my favorite part about it is how in act 3 he'll be jealous and still pining if you romance someone else, but if you do romance him he's pushing you away. handers tragic pairing of all time
