The entire Lyft to Sarah’s school, Delilah was tapping her nails anxiously against her jeans. Selling her motorcycle had been something she had deemed painful but necessary, along with her throwing knives and bow and arrows, but she had forgotten how utterly terrifying riding in a Lyft was for her. Especially without a knife on her for protection, Delilah felt defenseless. She kept her eyes on the driver and their surroundings, her guards not lowering for a second until they were at Sarah’s school.
After she had given in and cried it all out, Delilah had seemed to snap back to her senses. She forced herself to go on her daily run, as well as do her daily yoga, and got the remainder of the boxes unpacked so they were officially moved in. Was it just her guilty conscience spurring her into overdrive? Definitely. But anything that would make Sarah smile and somehow thank her for having so much compassion was worth it to Delilah. She refused to do anymore wallowing. Quitting the fight club was what was best for her in the long run, anyway. The world wasn’t ending. And at least she had left with her undefeated streak in tact.
Two bouquets of flowers in her arms, she leaned against the doorway to Sarah’s classroom and cleared her throat. She had managed to cover most of her bruises with makeup, but her lip was still busted and there was a small cut on the side of her face. “Surprise, mon amour. Are you ready to go? I have quite the day planned for us.”
The start of school was always...rough. As much as she absolutely loved the rush, the kids were always stressed out for the first couple weeks, and stressed out kids meant a stressed out Sarah. After dealing with roughly fourteen meltdowns throughout the day, class was finally over, and she was determined to grade all of the spelling papers before she left. Never had she wanted to go home and spend time with her girlfriend more, and she didn’t want work to get in the way.
Sarah sang to herself softly as she wrote little notes and smiley faces with her purple pen, enjoying the quiet of the after-school hours. The blonde was balancing her pen between her teeth when she heard the stranger clear their throat, expecting it to just be a coworker, but the sound of Delilah’s voice ringing into the room had the pen falling right out of her mouth. It was the sweetest sight she’d ever seen when she looked up, and Sarah felt a bit of deja vu; Delilah in that same exact spot, the first time she ever saw her. She was the most beautiful human the blonde had ever seen, and she’d only gotten more beautiful with each passing day.
“Oh my gosh,” Sarah exclaimed, a hand over her mouth as she stood up. Of course, the flowers Delilah had delivered were a lovely surprise, but this was something on a whole other level. They hadn’t been on a date in such a long time and she was over the moon. Hurrying over to her girlfriend, Sarah parted the bouquets to kiss Delilah happily. “I have never been more happy to see you--oh my gosh look at these!!” She was quick with getting the flowers into vases, something that Sarah obviously had lying around her office. Sometimes she just liked to buy flowers to brighten the room up. When she was finished, she returned to her girlfriend, slinking her arms around her neck. “What in the world did I do to deserve you?”
