The Joy Provider Explains it All #1
Me: How are plants alike and different?
J.P.: Plants are different because they have different colors, patterns, and sizes.
Me: Okay and how are they alike?
J.P: Well, they all have pollen...which sucks.

#Nope 1
Leaving for work one morning, I discovered a huge pile of NOPE. This guy had been stashed away in the rosemary bush near the garage. Halloween had passed, but there he was. I wanted to hurl it in the neighbor’s yard, but that required touching it. Also a nope.
The face has a clown-ish appeal to it and I don’t do clowns. Nope. This was the doing of my Dad. Of all the things to bring home from a hunting expedition. My daughter thinks it’s possessed.
Could be.
Next dump run, he’ll be in it. That’s the appropriate place for a huge pile of nope.
- Does not Do Clowns
I've got my eye on you. That phrase used to make me laugh. Laugh, until I met you. You've turned my world on its ear. How did accepting your flier lead us here?
It was your smile. I told my dad, "I got hung up on his smile." Then it was your laugh. I liked your look and your sense of humor complimented mine. You looked lonely. I felt lost. Maybe between us and a few rounds of drinks, we could draw ourselves a map.
X wasn't supposed to mark the spot. But I'm grateful it did.

i live this connected life…
connected with wires, wifi, cables and cords. yet despite all this filling, maybe not the fullness i crave.
i used to know how to plug in. wrap myself in the cords of others and fuse.

I am stuck. boots to ground. stuck. This muck has left marks. it has been a long trudge. Trench living. It's what it is. feels like. what i breathe. sleep with. wear.
It's not something you can get used to.
i refuse. will you?
you are not alone.
I'll hold your hand. together we'll find hope.
all is not lost.

She has a thing for cherries. So do I. But to help a friend through a rough patch, I make sure they put extras on my desserts for her to steal when she thinks I’m not looking.
We’re stretching into minute three and I’ve already strangled my daughter’s stuffed hedgehog, Mr. Prickles, five times. I’m about to make it six. He rattles the pill bottle in his pants pocket for the third time. I look at Mr. Prickles as he rambles on and think: Wow, what a prick.
She speaks to me in caffeinated sentences, where her thoughts have no caplocks or punctuation. Her animated tales keep me hungry for more in the same way she managed to touch across continents. Her passion for even the mundane is inspiring. To know her is to eventually fall in love with her. It’s what makes her so dangerous.
Quiet doesn’t paint the same on everyone. - Angela
Your Voice Is a Powerful Thing
I have a daughter. She is beautiful. She is smart. She is kind. It’s been a powerful past three days and much has been happening in the world, both here, and abroad. This past year, as a family, we have witnessed some upsetting, painful, and at times terrifying moments both in our home town and abroad.
Becoming a parent has changed me.
It has changed how I react to the world around me. My ferocity. My claws. My fangs. They don’t slash and rend in the manner they had before her arrival. As our planet shifts and the energy of the Kali Yuga moves forward in an unedited rush - I note that my Rebel, Hellion, Norm Breaker, and Risk Taker has huddled together and linked arms with Protector.
I am not used to their fires being tempered. They burned hot, bright. Red. Then struck.
But these days, the flame burns Blue. This heat more intense then Red, but one that flames slowly. It is not quick to consume. It is steady. It burns with a unified purpose. Protector has stifled the reactionary furnace of the others and brought about solidarity in a movement focused on reactions rooted in Love.
My daughter had lots of questions this weekend and we aired the things that took up space in our core and hearts. It was a weekend of empowerment. Empowerment being a word that hovered in the air. A word that needed a course of action.
Part of empowerment is voice.
Our voices are often the first things silenced when others seek control. They limit our voice and reduce our personal power. To cultivate the fire, the wild, the power, the confidence blooming in my daughter we adopted the exercise in the video link below to do everyday. Not just for her, but myself as well. It is too easy to forget, become complacent, and grow quiet. Like daily gratitudes or devotionals, this too is something that can be practiced and fortified.
How do you empower and fortify yourself and others? Do you have a habit or ritual you take part in on a daily, weekly, monthly schedule? What are some of your favorite affirmations?

Embrace your power. Love your voice. Be heard. There is always someone listening.
Sometimes I choke on silver linings.
The feathers of angels fell on the second day of 2017. It continued to descend as the gray cloaked sun inched its way across the sky. Outside children looked skyward, mouths agape to catch the frost of angels as they made ice men to adorn their yards. Pets huddled near hearths as they watched their two-leggers between naps through chilled window panes.
Wishing you warmth and fun this second day of January. May the magick of 2017 steadily grow.
First day of 2017 was mired in a migraine that led to the eventual breakdown of migraine meds. Hoping your New Years day was by far more epic than mine.
