Starter for Sam-Fairbanks
*Although the lodge had plenty of food, it did lack in other supplies. Anything needed for repairs, to defend yourself with, or to read, needed to be brought in from outside. Kenny and Sarita were on that job, while Mathew and Walter had to stay behind to hold down camp. Maybe that was a good thing. Maybe extending help to the girl, wandering the ski slope like a lost puppy wouldn’t have gone well with Kenny, but without him here, Walter was free to do as he wished. He didn’t make any attempts to hide himself as he sat atop the ski lift, almost to attract the attention of the women at hand.*
“Sorry, we had a sign with directions, but wood rots a lot faster then you think.”
Sam had been on her own for a few months now, having been separated from her family while evading a group of bandits that outgunned them. She would have done anything for Michonne to have been there with them still. While wandering around looking for any shelter, she spotted the lodge up on the hill and made her way over. Upon hearing the voice, she looked around and spotted the man in his red sweater sitting up on the lift. By instinct, her hand hovered over to the back of her jeans, only to be reminded that she had dropped her Glock in the river while coming across a half rotten train bridge to get over here. With a sigh, she gave the stranger an empty look, the look on her face screaming ‘please help me’. In similar situations, she may have been aggressive or even worried, but her desperation and the simple genuine friendliness of this guy put her at ease.
“Please… if you have food, water… anything, I-I’ve been alone for so long now. I just need a place to stay for a few days, I don’t want to be any trouble…” Her voice sounded weak, and her appearance didn’t help. Her caramel toned skin was dirty, and her shirt had several tears in it, there was a bandage wrapped around her left thigh on the outside of her jeans, all topped off by a black eye.
*Walter wanted to make a joke, pointing out the large cabin next to him, but it felt like a poor time. This girl was in serious need of some help. Many people had come through here in seek of shelter or food, some in search of something they lost. However, it was always groups, even pairs of people, because those who stayed to themselves, didn’t last long. Without Matthew, Walter would be gone, but the question is, who did she have, and what happened to them?*
“All I brought with me was this.” *He took a bottle of water with him during his shift, but no longer cared about having it for himself. The bottle was tucked into his pocket and he quickly began to make his way down the ladder, watching the girl as he did. Once at the bottom, he approached her without hesitation and held out the item at hand for her.* “We have enough canned peaches with us to help. You’re more than welcome to have as much as you need.”
