idk if this is a hot take but i think ran being scared of ghost makes sense. her character is known for her physical strength, and she utilizes that strength to protect others and herself. she can literally knock out a grown man in one kick, and lowkey destroy facilities, but her immense strength and skill is of course limited to physical objects. ghosts, however, are typically untouchable (literally), and since ran is someone who believes in spiritual things, it makes sense that she'd fear the one thing she can't use her strength or fighting skills against.

of course, i'm not saying that this is gosho's intention—heck i don't even think it is tbh, but since there is technically no explicit explanation for this, i think readers are allowed to have their own take and make sense of it in their own way to fill in the gaps.

tho, say that is the reason, i think a better way to execute it would've been if fear of ghosts was something that's unique to ran. i mean obviously ran can't be the only person in the whole detco to fear ghosts, but i mean like a special degree of fear. i think sonoko somewhat fears them, but at the same time likes creepy stuff (as mentioned in the arc where she and kogoro attended a halloween party on a ship), so that's good, but i guess it doesn't help that kazuha and ran are always seen to be scared together in contrast to heiji or conan.

i also think the guys—or at least one of them—could've been made to show fear too. i know it might seem like it doesn't fit their characters as detectives, because "ghosts don't exist" and all that, but i feel like they could still at least have fear of the uncertain. they can try to face it, but still show fear on their face. (Idk if i'm making sense in this part lol)

basically, make big fear of ghosts something unique to ran, and not make it seem like something only certain female characters have(?).

anyway, whatever gosho's intention is, this is what i'm having as my headcanon.
