i truly do love watership down because it does make it clear that the rabbits are smart but they dont know everything that, say, a human does

like blackberry figuring out that they could float pipkin and fiver across the river on the wooden board and hazels internal monologue being "the smartest of us has gone insane everything is going wrong im going to lose my mind" because hes just a little rabbit who has never seen anything float on top of another object before and so thinks blackberry is just saying words at him

and then blackberry proves that they can float pipkin and fiver across the river on the board and that blackberry was not in fact losing him mind

and then it is stated in the text that damn near all the rabbits instantly forget about this the moment they get across the river except for a few like fiver and blackberry
