Lewis is asked about his "welcome to F1 moment" during the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix Pre-Race Press Conference:

Interviewer: Lewis?

Lewis: Huh?

Interviewer: Your welcome --*laughs*

Lewis: What was it?

Interviewer: Your "welcome to F1 moment"

Lewis: Uhhhh.. when they told you that you were going to get the drive?

Valtteri: That was my moment.

Lewis: That was your moment. [Valtteri: Frank told me that] Ahh yeah! Well, my moment was... Monza... 2006? Just won the GP2 championship. I was on the grid, Kimi was on pole, and I had the privilege of going onto the grid, and I was standing in front of Kimi's car, and Ron put his arm around me. And he turned me looking up to turn 1 and he says "I'm going to give you a chance." That was the moment. In the moment, I couldn't quite believe it and I didn't know if he was like "I'm going to give you a chance..." I didn't know what it was going to be a chance, if I was really-- that's what I was thinking when I left but obviously that was the moment when he decided he was going to give me a chance for 2007.

there's a chapter in bernie's book 'how to win a grand prix' (so good btw) where she details what it’s like for the crew to travel around the world. there's just a small line in it, but i really think sums up seb's character as a whole -

japanese hotels have the tiniest rooms imaginable, mainly because they're dealing with businessmen with no luggage who are only staying for just one night. (...) i guess the biggest problem is the little rice pillows they use in that part of the world. they're very small and uncomfortable by our standards.

on one occasion with aston martin, team members were complaining so much that one of our drivers, sebastian vettel, went out and bought everyone a roll-up travel pillow. that was really good – and typical of seb. i've kept my pillow and bring it with me each time i go to japan.

like it's such a small thing but idk ❤️‍🩹 reading things like that just makes me miss him more
