If anyone would like to know exactly what winstons thoughts were when he saw Julia for the first time, I can give it to you. He saw her wearing a chasity belt (signifying that she had never had sex before) and he saw her as something to be defiled. One glance at her and he was so angry that he “could never have her” and that she would never give him the time of day because he was an old and ugly man. (She does give him the time of day later so he was mad over nothing). He is so mad that she is better and purer than he is (in his own words) that he describes exactly how he wants to rape and murder her. He describes in detail how he wants to strip her down, tie her to a pole, fill her full of arrows, rape her, and at the moment of his climax, slit her throat.

So yes, by the time the rats were put in front of his face I was damn well rooting for the rats.

Winston isn’t meant to be a morally perfect Jesus-like character, he’s meant to represent an average man with thoughts and feelings that have been so horrifically distorted they are almost inhuman due to the nature of an oppressive state.

I’m not going to go into detail, but you’re missing the whole point about what the state says reality should be. Winston enjoys thinking the opposite as both an adrenaline rush and a coping mechanism. If the state says be orderly, do not have sex for pleasure, do not display emotion, be “Good”, then of course his fantasy is going to be radically depraved and full of rage (a strong emotion) and the most violent behavior he can dream of. It is the exact opposite of what is allowed.

I read & relatively enjoyed 1984. I’m still very much allowed to be outright disgusted at the way his thoughts about Julia are written & don’t need to make excuses to justify it. It added nothing to the point of the book. Just like the child sewer orgy in IT: those scenes added nothing to their respective plots except outlets for the author’s sexual depravity.

Women are not punching bags for men’s anger at the state. If you think his thoughts are “justifiable” under ANY circumstance please do me a favor & cease interacting with anything I post entirely. Some users post photos in these subreddits as a way to punish, humiliate, and degrade women they personally know and feel have wronged them.

The same user has been posting the same group of South Asian women in a bridal party on r/asiangirlsforwhitemen (an Asian woman fetish subreddit, where users are supposed to only post themselves) as well as on multiple subreddits centered around ranking women by fuckability. This kind of vendetta posting, revenge porn-lite is sanctioned by these subreddits in all but name. While the rules might prohibit posting women you know or private images, a quick glance at the posters in these forums reveals that it’s a lot of users posting and degrading the same women in the same few forums.

Common themes in these subreddits include: sisters, moms and daughters, “college girls” (some subreddits have a special flair for college-aged women content so you can filter by that), graduation photos, birthday photos, family photos, sports game photos, sorority group photos, wedding photos, and any photo that includes two or more women. Most of the women in certain subreddits are not in the sex industry in any capacity. They’re just women who have photos somewhere on the internet, including private social media pages. They are women just like you.

There are hundreds of subreddits dedicated to original adult content, supposedly willingly posted and knowingly created by the user themselves, but that’s not enough. The abundance of porn on the internet has just exacerbated male entitlement. It’s not enough for some women to willingly post themselves on adult forums, all women need to have their bodies and faces posted and their fuckability discussed, measured, and audited. If one woman is up for sale, all women are up for sale.

In the book when God was a Woman the author talks about how this story was essentially telling women without telling women that their old religion was dead and drilling through their skull their place in the new religion. Think about it, in antiquity before Goddess was totally wiped away the snake was Her symbol, so was the tree and pomegranate which some people argue was the tree in genesis. The snake is speaking to the woman because this is illustrating women's connection to knowledge from Goddess using Her symbol of the snake. And when eve follows through with the advice of the snake(Goddess) she is punished, blamed, and given as an object to a man. This relays to the newly conquered people that if you continue to follow Goddess and Her teachings you will be outside of God's love. You will be punished and oppressed. This story justifies men's dominion over women while also stamping our a flourishing religion and way of life. The bible is full of stories like this.

Back to the story though...

Adam also watched Eve eat of the fruit and never stopped her. He was told directly by god but never said anything to Eve. Wouldn't you think this would be reason to punish Adam? Toiling and having dominion over women doesn't seem like a punishment imo.
