My first encounter with blue whale was when I was about 8 or 9. It was the GK book with a detailed rendering of a miniscule human next to the humongous mammal. The thought of being face to face with something like that stupified me. Average blue whales are supposed to be a 100 ft long, and their tongue alone weighs as much as an elephant, an elephant for God's sake. If that doesn't make one appreciate the wonders on this planet...
