eldest daughter sydrome is about a very specific trauma that comes with being expected to parent for younger siblings and even your parents as a literal child and how badly it fucks you and your perception of yourself and what you're capable of doing up. gifted kid syndrome is about how a "smart" label is slapped onto kids at a horribly young age and then they are repeatedly denied help forced to do more and more work never taught socialization or study skills and then berated and treated like a disappointment when they're human beings instead of little intelligence machines. god.

Hey theres like one thing I do think is a bit uncomfortable about this. A lot of times the fanfiction or fiction in general could be made by kids or people who were kids at the time. That alone is really scummy... taking work someone might have made as child. Even with adults some of these people probably have no idea they signed the rights away to their work possibly by publishing on wattpad. This means the writers of the fanfiction are probably not being compensated and their hard work is being taken by companies who have the money to pay writers (including them). As an online content creator this should make people a bit uneasy? What if other companies by fiction publishing sites and make your work theirs? Do we even know if they will credit for the writing theyre making into movies? Writing is a job and the writers who write fanfiction deserve fair treatment. IF paramont can afford to buy wattpad's cooperation they can afford to pay writers who made the original pieces theyre taking Read your TOS and also if youre a writer on Wattpad please consider finding another place to publish. (If anyone knows resources that don't writers don't give up the right to their writing when publishing online please leave links)

Okay but guess what, a big and I mean BIG chunk of wattpad is STOLEN fic.

The better stuff on wattpad are works that were stolen from ao3 and reuploaded by ppl who didn't know any better. Imagine you living in not-america and your ao3 fic shows up in a story made by paramount because some 13 yo shithead stole it and uploaded it on wattpad to get credit for someone else's work. How do you go to paramount about it? No how. You were never informed your work ended up on wattpad unless you had a decent ao3 following or you google your own work and spend 5 days of 7 trying to get the stolen work removed. Big corp doesn't care it's stolen material. It's theirs now.

tumblr is such a bizarre kind of social interaction. like. the rules are so different here. I once unfollowed someone because they said prime numbers were ugly and that was simply the last straw for me. imagine hanging out with a friend and getting up from the table and never talking to them again because they told you they hated prime numbers. that’s what I did.
