Target Audience

The target audience for this campaign is for the young people within our society. For those who are working and got a family of their own. This campaign is to raise awareness so that their loved one doesn’t get trapped in the emotions of an Alzheimer’s disease sufferer but to live a good life with Alzheimer’s disease if diagnosed.

Critical Reflection

Overall this brief was pretty challenging due to having a main brief and having one day, live briefs within it. This meant I had to be constantly on my toes trying to get as much work done as I can within a certain amount of time given. This brief taught me to manage my time as I had briefs within a brief and also had 2 part-time jobs which meant I had to work round my part time job and try fit in these one day live briefs within the main brief. What I found most challenging was I kept having different ideas and half way through I will keep changing them as I felt like I could do better or do something different. I would spend a week or two working on a design and then will scrap the idea and do something else. This means I am limiting my time on getting something done to a good standard. My biggest success was the live brief we had which was to design a logo and label for Bee9 Honey. Even though it was a one-day brief I think my final outcome came out pretty good. The reason for this is because I followed what the brief told me and carefully listened to the beekeeper. He mentioned that he doesn’t want us to have an image/illustration of a bee on their logo or label which is what a few people did. The colour I chose for the background of the facing was unique as I went for a dark purple colour which is a type of rich colour and was not too common like orange. After submitting my label design for Bee9 Honey which was commissioned by The Custard Factory’s Tim Vivian, I came across a Facebook post by The Custard Factory a few days after showing that my label design was entered for the competition. On the 2nd day of voting mine and another students design were leading out of all the ones entered for the competition. In the end I think my final outcome came out alright as it visually had a message but before the presentation it never had a message behind it but was just a calendar with a fact about Alzheimer’s disease. However, if I was to do this again I would make sure that I do a lot of research and look at other practitioner’s work before trying to come up with different ideas and sticking to an idea too early as it’s going to change later on during the process. I would also try playing around with different equipment in order to create different effects like embossing, screen printing and letter pressing when designing a poster. Also I would try to do a lot of different versions of the same design, therefore then I could pick one for the final submission.

After the presentation I wanted to make another version of it and thought I’d add post it notes and hand write all the words and on paper then transfer it over to illustrator and vectorise it

Presentation Assessment

On the 8th of November we had our presentations where we presented our work to our tutor and small groups of students. The presentation included our research, development and final outcomes including the live briefs we did. Overall I’m happy with what I’ve done.

Letter Press

Before printing my poster off I spoke to Naomi about having ‘November 2016′ letter pressed or embossed on top of the calendar. Having made the mistake of mounting my poster onto a foam board I wasn’t able to do that. I asked Naomi if there was any other solutions for this, she said I could do hand letter press instead which I did. The outcome came out pretty decent but could’ve been better if I used embossed effect on the text.

I have digitally completed the calendar and added information about Alzheimer’s disease at the bottom ‘Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia, affecting 62 per cent of those diagnosed.’

I then printed it off at the print room using my own paper which I bought from Naomi which was the Fabriano paper. I used this specific paper because it had a natural texture to it and when the ink got printed onto it, it will look as if it was hand printed.

I then decided to scrap the idea of vectorising the sketch that I done as it didn’t work out due to the size of the calendar and the size of the canvas. I then created a table in illustrator rather than doing drawing it on paper and then transferring it onto illustrator

Development

Here I have transferred my sketch that I did of the calendar which my tutor Martin liked the idea of over to illustrator. I vectorised the calendar but it didn’t work out because my poster was A2 and the calendar would be placed in the middle, which meant that there was not enough space for text in each box. Therefore I had to change my idea. I stuck with the calendar theme but instead of my poster being portrait I done it landscape so then I could fit in all the words.

Final Idea Sketch

My final idea was to have a calendar theme which represents Alzheimer’s disease as people with Alzheimer’s disease forget things and have difficulties with thinking, problem solving and speaking or language. They also forget about recent conversations and events. My main reason for me going with a calendar theme was because they forget important dates like their anniversaries and birthdays. As mentioned in one my previous posts, my idea was to have different emotions in every box which a person with Alzheimer’s goes through every day of their life.

I showed this to my tutor Martin and he liked the idea and told me transfer it over to illustrator and play around with it to see if it works, if not then I have to change my idea.

Initial Ideas

My first idea was to have some sort of explosion coming out of a persons head which shows that the sufferer is going through so many emotions that he can’t mentally hack it.

My second idea was to have a calendar with different emotions in each day to show what the sufferer is going through, throughout his day to day life.

CAMPAIGN 3

This is another poster which I came across and shares such a powerful message. The illustration shows that Alzheimer’s disease is taking all the precious memories away from a person and the person cannot do anything about it but to just live with it.
