For most of Ella’s life, she lived a comfortable existence alongside her beloved father. After losing her mother when she was no more than two years old, all Ella ever knew was the kindness and compassion of her father. They were a very well-off family – one of the wealthiest in Meridian, as a matter of fact – but he always taught Ella to stay humble and never take their wealth for granted. At home, Ella did a few chores here and there to earn an allowance, all in order to learn the value of a dollar. She wasn’t nearly as spoiled as the other children in their wealthy neighborhood, which was shown through how she carried herself. When a person met young Ella Cendre, she would treat them with the utmost respect and be as friendly as could be, something that earned her many friends while growing up. During her childhood, it was common for Ella to have a constant stream of friends in and out of her father’s mansion, and she couldn’t be happier. It helped that her beauty grew with age, proving that someone could indeed be beautiful inside and out.
As she transitioned from a child into a young woman, her father began to date Lydia Tremaine, a woman both he and his daughter perceived to be absolutely lovely with two equally lovely daughters. They weren’t much older than Ella and came off as very sweet girls, so she approved of her father’s relationship without much hesitation. In what felt like the blink of an eye, the two were married and the three women became official members of the Cendre family. Ella was overjoyed to have a mother and two older sisters, especially after so many years spent without another woman in the house, but her joy was short-lived. Less than a year after the marriage, her father suddenly fell ill and passed away when his doctors couldn’t help him, leaving her alone with her stepfamily. While she grieved and cried for what felt like weeks, her stepmother and stepsisters hardly shed a single tear and moved on extremely quickly. It was then that Ella began to see their true colors and started realizing that these women weren’t nearly as nice as she once thought they were. Ella hardly had time to grieve before she was put to work around the house, all while her stepmother and stepsisters lounged around. They never once lifted a finger and instead dumped all of their chores on poor Ella, who had to keep the mansion tidy while also balancing her schoolwork and social life.
During her adolescence, she started to spend less time with friends as more duties were piled onto her plate, becoming one of the only teenagers she knew who had this much work to do. Yet, as much as she hated the work, she pulled through it with little to no complaints. After all, she didn’t want her father’s mansion to fall into disrepair. It wasn’t until she turned eighteen that all of her perseverance paid off; now she could inherit her home, her father’s money, and be rid of her problems. After countless years spent being used and belittled, she wanted her stepmother and stepsisters out of the home she now inherited. But even then, she was far too kind with the vile women. She took back her home and asked them to leave, but paid her stepmother more than enough to find a new house elsewhere. Although she resented them and would much rather leave them with nothing, she knew her father would want her to treat the three women better than they treated her. Once they were gone, she had an entire mansion – not to mention a full inheritance – to herself. Now she was free to live her life however she pleased, although she couldn’t quite figure out where to begin with this new opportunity.
