Reading that post about baby birds reminded me of something but I didn’t want to hijack the post about a completely different species. So a quick PSA: if you find a nest of baby rabbits…
LEAVE THEM ALONE!
At this time of year, I see way too many people essentially kidnapping baby rabbits from their homes. It’s almost always well meaning, sure, but it can still do major damage
Rabbits only nurse their babies a few times a day, usually at dawn and dusk. The rest of the time they leave the nest alone so predators hopefully won’t be attracted to it. It is very common to find a rabbit nest full of healthy, well-fed babies, but never once see the mom
Unless you find a rabbit that is undeniably in need of assistance (visibly injured, sick, soaking wet, brought in by a pet) the best course of action is to leave it alone. And if it does need assistance, the best thing to do is to give it to a licensed wildlife rehabber and NOT, I repeat, NOT, try to feed it. Baby rabbits, and all baby animals general, have incredibly sensitive digestive systems that can be damaged if they are fed the wrong thing or the wrong way
Wild rabbits are completely weaned and independent at around 3-4 weeks of age. If the rabbit is fully furred and hopping around on its own, regardless of size, it is most likely independent and does not need your help
Here’s a great article I found with a flow chart explaining what to do if you find a baby rabbit. It also explains how to return a baby to its nest if the need arises
A baby rabbit has the best chance of survival when it is cared for by its mother. Before intervening, we want to make sure the rabbit really
This spring, do your local rabbit moms a favor and STOP KIDNAPPING THEIR BABIES!
Baby bird season is incoming and I’d like to remind everyone that birds do not have a significant sense of smell. Bird parents will not reject birdlets because you have handled them.
If you see smol birbs with few or no feathers on the ground, you can safely put them back into their nest, bird parents will still care for them.
If you see smol birbs with some or most feathers on the ground, please leave them there, as bird parents are probably nearby watching and feeding.
nakey bird = accidentally fell out, is cold and scared, put back in nest! if you can’t reach the nest, try to put it on a wide branch or fork so predators can’t get at it as easily.
scruffy feather bird = starting to try the fly thing, not very good at it. only put in nest/branch if predators abound, i.e. you have four outdoor cats and they’re licking their chops.
fluffy feather bird = smol fly guy! do nothing. can probably get away from predators and will flip its shit if you pick it up.
Reblogging this because I’d always heard the ‘Don’t touch a distressed bird its mom will reject it’ thing treated as fact before now, I didn’t realise it wasn’t true…
Spring is coming, time to reblog this again.
It’s not uncommon to find young birds away from their nests during spring and summer. But should you help them? That depends.

God I love Apothecary Diaries. Maomao is like a dog with a mouth full of Lego bricks to me. Babygirl don’t eat that
So imagine you go to a brothel and when you get there it’s full of beautiful women but then also there’s this dog. And when you ask “hey what’s with the dog” they’re like oh the dog, we love the dog, everybody loves the dog, the dog collects rocks from the yard. And you’re like “okay” but later you find the dog gathering piles of rocks and cementing them into a beautiful river-stone wall to protect the building. And you’re like “I didn’t even know dogs could do that”. And they’re like “that’s nothing, check this out” and then the dog starts doing multiplication with the rocks. You’re like “what the fuck” and they go “nahh she’s just getting started”. And they start giving the dog complex mathematical formulas that the dog answers by laying out the rocks. And you go “holy shit that’s the smartest dog I’ve ever seen”. And they go “it’s the smartest dog in the world” and you’re like “wow that’s amazing”. And then you look outside and the dog is eating the rocks. And you’re like “can the dog eat rocks?”. And they’re like “no”
One day you find out the dog went missing. “We don’t know where the dog went but we miss the dog”, the beautiful women tell you. A year later the dog comes back. The dog is accompanied by the Duke of wales. “My gardener stole this dog but now I would like to buy it”, he says. “The dog has built me a beautiful castle and solved the viscount’s mysterious murder.” You aren’t sure how the dog did that by stacking rocks but you’re still incredibly impressed. The beautiful women are so happy to see the dog again. “Did you know that the dog can ride a bike?” The Duke asks. You look at the dog. The dog is obviously concealing a mouth full of gravel
This. Except replace dog with cat and rocks with plastic.
Cultural Fashion: Song (And Her Mother) Pt. 2 - Hair & Accessories
Both Song and her mother wear hairstyles appropriate for their age and station, in accordance with the cultural norms of Joseon-era Korea (1392–1897).
Song’s hairstyle is known as a daenggi meori (댕기머리), a long braid meant for unmarried men and women. The most distinctive feature of the daenggi meori is the long ribbon or daenggi (댕기) tied at the end of the braid. If this accessory looks familiar, it’s because this detail was also added to the designs of Long Feng and the Dai Li.
Song’s mother wears a hairstyle known as a jjokjin meori (쪽진머리), a braided chignon worn by married women. The hairpin keeping the hairdo together is called a binyeo (비녀). Song’s mother appears to be wearing a silver-plated binyeo, indicating that the family is likely decently well-off. This fits well with what we’re shown of Song and her mother: Song is a knowledgeable herbalist who works at the local hospital, her mother lives in a nicely constructed house, and she can afford to casually offer a dinner of roast duck to two complete strangers.
Finally, I wanted to bring attention to Song’s shoes and socks. She wears traditional Korean leather flats known as hye (혜) and traditional Korean socks known as beoseon (버선), which are typically curly-toed and loose around the ankles.
Like what I’m doing? Tips always appreciated, never expected. ^_^

Tylee
Thai fashion was a big inspiration for Tylee, but with a fictional/canon long braid. I was thinking about having a Thai fashion spotlight for Ember Island, but Tylee's first design was too strong too resist.
(Reoccurring disclaimer for this art series: This is for fun, they are inspired by the show's costume designs and then extrapolated out with historical fashion or things I think will be fun to draw. These are not meant to be accurate, only inspired. I hope you like them!)

Finally finished 😭 Timelapse at the bottom! I had an idea for my Wings of Pages series, where instead of text, it's a book full of botanical illustrations. The majority of the time was spent on the individual flowers for each feather/page of the wings. I really love the look of old botanical books with the water color paintings and the scientific names written in cursive. So I spent way too many hours painting out 20 of these flower pages, and even then, it wasn't enough for the wings so I did have to duplicate some.
Here are the 20 flowers! The HD image of Atlas Botanicus, and all 20 HD flower studies without watermark will be DMed on Patreon.com/Yuumei on May 5th, along with the hours long video recording of how I painted everything.
if you dont like bush you literally dont deserve to fuck
what if i thought he wasn’t a very good president
i say this with all my heart, from one person who cares about animal welfare to hopefully many others:
please take the term “factory farm” out of your vocabulary when discussing animal welfare
talking about the welfare of livestock and livestock production is incredibly important! all animals deserve to have the best welfare possible, regardless of if they’re going to end up on a plate or not
but the term “factory farm” does not actually discuss animal welfare in the way so many people seem to assume it does
for starters, “factory farm” is not an actual industry term. it doesn’t actually mean anything, because what constitutes a factory farm is completely subjective. you will never see the phrase “factory farm” in any kind of published research or official article because, again, it doesn’t mean anything
sure, the phrase definitely has connotations. and the connotation is the issue here. people use the term “factory farm” as a shorthand for… well, typically, “farming practice i don’t understand but think looks bad”
the term isn’t something neutral. it is specifically designed to create a negative image when you hear it. someone says “factory farm” and most people imagine large amounts of animals kept in bad condition
the key here: large amounts of animals
the size of a farm does not dictate the welfare of the animals on it. there are plenty of large farms with hundreds, thousands of animals that take stellar care of their livestock. there are small farms with only a couple animals that live horrible lives
the size of a farm is not the issue when it comes to animal welfare, but rather the practices used on the farm. sometimes they do go hand in hand, yes. there are some practices that are only necessary because of the amount of animals present
but say that
there are other terms that are actually industry terms that work better for these scenarios. try “conventional farming” “industrialized farming” “commercialized farming”. these actually have meanings that you can then jump off of into talking about animal welfare practices on these farms
“factory farming” is just a term used to paint farming in an entirely negative light, when what actually makes a farm have good or bad welfare depends on so many other things
