latest silly death note au i was thinking abt was one where light is the prince of a kingdom, and he’s gotten to the age where it’s expected he’ll go on a quest to rescue a princess in a tower so he can marry her (classic stuff), and his dad has made this deal for him to be betrothed to misa, but he has to go to her tower. so he goes on this treacherous journey to the tower, fights all these things to get inside, finally gets in, and just sees L in there instead, and is like

light: um. im here for a princess is there a princess here

L: u must have taken a wrong turn, its just me here

light: and you are..?

L: cursed

light: so princess misa doesn’t live here…?

L: rookie mistake. princess misa lives in the tower to the SOUTH of the woods, mine is the one to the EAST of the woods

the way that the mixup happened is that the one who specified where exactly light should head to was matsuda. who was very nervous in the moment that light asked him which direction it was, and accidentally mixed up which tower it was

so now light is lowkey annoyed this guy apparently thinks he’s stupid enough to not be able to follow simple directions, and the guy doesn’t even know that it wasn’t light’s fault he went to the wrong tower, it was matsuda’s

anyway light is pissed that he fought all this shit just to find the world’s most annoying man instead of the princess he’s been told to marry, and then light starts leaving, but L starts following him out of the room, and it’s like

light: what are you doing. stop following me

L: you rescued me. i literally can’t not follow you

light: yes you can. goodbye

L: you misunderstand. you were the one who rescued me. so you’re also cursed now #ourCurse

light: [eye twitching] what.

L: you have to take me with you and marry me now. or else the curse will Get Us

Hey. Just had a crazy fucking revelation regarding L.

I was just thinking about his obsession with sweets, and how that was such a specific character trait that it felt almost odd to me. And I've heard people discuss how that was kind of the point, that maybe sugar was a coping mechanism for L, and it was an easy energy booster for L's fucked up metabolism— and yes it does fit his character in it's particular strangeness.

I propose something that builds off of that.

The way L consumes sugar is... interesting. He eats it in a way that looks like he isn't really tasting it, at the very least just eating it for energy. L rarely gives indication that he enjoys what he's eating, even though it's all he eats. And I do believe that he enjoys sweets on some level, but much like his detective work, it's encompassed him in a way that he needs excess of it to feel even a little satiated. It's almost like an addiction.

And the way he adds sugar to coffee... that can't taste good. It's coffee soaked sugar. Yet he drinks that everyday, multiple times a day.

No matter what he thinks of it, he chokes it down.

And obviously what came to my mind was the term "sickly sweet."

You know what else is often described as sickly sweet?

The taste and smell of death— decay specifically.

I think it's so interesting, and so fitting for L's character, that one of his defining traits is the fact that he quite literally smothers himself in the taste of death, because he's so addicted to consuming it he can't stop even if it must be having serious ramifications on him. Remind you of anything else he does?

And Light's obsession with destroying the rot in the world, while L almost exclusively consumes what people say will rot your teeth and your body from the inside out... interesting. Very very interesting.
