Also they make new ones every year. The very popular Honeycrisp apple was only released in 1991 (so it's 35 years old).[1] Minnesota, where the Honeycrisp was developed, is one of the top developers of new apple varieties.[2]

The variety of apples and the care for apple flavors is also a big reason why the non-alcoholic drink apple cider is so popular. It's a common thing for people to choose a specific brand of apple cider because they like the taste. And farmers will also sell their own apple cider in the fall.

There is also a website called Apple Search that was founded in 1999 with the goal of preserving the agricultural heritage of apple varieties and "finding lost apples." They have a complete list of the 1000+ varieties they've found; finding an apple means finding an actual original tree. Here is how to help with the search, especially if you know elderly people and can ask them about apple varieties. There are other ways to help that are listed, too, though.

WIPs, well i ended up writing more philly AU of wishbaby deadbeat dad!jamie (who doesn't know yet that he's going to be terrible at being a deadbeat, that red string of fate is powerful on proximity!) it'll probably be another loosie but i'm really enjoying jamie wallowing in the misery of knowing that the life he actually wants is so close to being his if only he had a crumb of courage to reach out for it

i also have an f/f jdtz WIP (more like a long doc of sentence fragments) where trevor thinks she's a straight guy that jamie's made an exception for and has decided to make up for it by "pretending" to be a girl when they fuck and jamie's like yay my closeted trans girlfriend is more comfortable exploring herself yay!!!!

i've put most of them on anon for now, including the sunburn fic! idk i'm very squirrelly about the fourth wall and damn kids these days rabble rabble, but i also enjoy writing and delight in entertaining y'all who look at what i do and go oh hell yeah, so "anon" (which with my old fics is more like holding up a bedsheet in front of my face and claiming you can't see me) seems like the best compromise for my neurosis at this point
