my husband told me, after many years of being together, that when he was about 7 a teacher used to single him out for being disrespectful at school. Apparently his disrespectful offense was “smirking” too much???? So he got punished for smiling???? And eventually just trained himself to stop smiling so this teacher would leave him alone???? And that’s why he has such a stoic facial expression now and can’t smile for photographs.

It’s the only way men are able to discuss their issues because society taught them that they shouldn’t burden people with their issues or that their issues are meaningless or that their issues aren’t actually a thing. Sharing anecdotes with friends is one way of talking about it, because they feel comfortable enough to share. At the same time, they might just not know that the event was traumatic because it’s trauma y’all.

Take this to be your reminder that men experience trauma too and need a safe space to talk about it. Be that safe space for your friends who are men

Sometimes you have to tell a man “so you were assaulted” and they say “it’s not a big deal I told that story a million times everyone always laughs” and you just have to give him 15 minutes or maybe an hour until he comes back and says “hey I think you might be right”

There's a time and place to share a traumatic story with a friend.

Men are not fragile naive Tarzan babies oblivious to social conventions. They want you to believe that they are so you'll put up with them trampling your boundaries.

Men fully understand there's a right time and a wrong time to bring up a traumatic topic. They confront people with shocking stories at the wrong time on purpose.

She is right about one thing though. While you spiral trying to navigate his untimely declarations, he's giving off a Beach Boys vibe. He's giving off that Beach Boys vibe because he won. He made you uncomfortable. He mad you lose your train of thought. He's making you feel sorry for him. He's in total control and you're completely lost in the situation he created.

Wise up. Quit rewarding this behavior. Immediately point out to him what he's doing. "That came out of nowhere. Why are you telling me this right now?"

Or....wait for it. Its not a big deal to us at all. No manipulative behavior no baiting to trample on boundaries. Sometimes we just want to share interesting stories. Are some of those stories traumatic? Maybe but if we can share it with people we are comfortable with we will. If we can do that its really not that big of a deal to us. Tips to women on how to react to this? Match the vibe. Like any other social interaction.

I didn't like in the heights

On Representation- Dominican People

In the heights had a chance to showcase the actual texture of the neighborhood but chose not to. I am aware Lin made a statement that he failed to properly represent afro-Latino people. The problem is that this has been a complaint since this show has been on Broadway. I understand this show is a celebration of Hispanics in new York but at lease hire Dominican actors and actresses to make Little Dominican Republic feel authentic. I believe the movie had 1 Dominican in it. She was written in as a Puerto Rican and USNAVI was the Dominican when the role was Cleary played by a Puerto Rican actor. We sell Frio Frios not Piraguas. We say mi nina not my nena and for the love of God its DR not "the dr" Not only are the people confused but the language and fashion was a mess.

This is a bit outdated but as a long time resident almost everyone was Dominicana.

On Theme-We are Powerless

Yes lets portray Hispanics as self loathing bathroom scrubbing paupers. The issues the mosaic of Hispanic people faced were similar to any immigrant group before it. The Irish, Italians and Chinese faced the same hardships any new group of people who emigrated in mass. How are those people portrayed now that they have assimilated? Yet this play painted an us against them narrative and it sucked. I thought it was tone def that the characters came to America to find work yet chose to hold on to their "island identities" when they long abandon their home and people. What's wrong with being American now that she gave you a new lease on life? Why cant we all wave the same flag? Don't you want to be family? How's that for a sueñito?

I have been playing all the Final Fantasies in chronological order and skipped to 7 from 5 due to intergrade's release. I tried playing without any presumptions due to its reputation of being the most loved game. It was special, I understood how it was groundbreaking for its time and its charm is still to this day extremely unique. I really enjoyed 7 a lot more than I thought I would.

I thought I would never find the time or the tolerance (graphics) to finish this game. I had to platinum the game for my younger self. Playing through the remake is just a huge gift to ff7 fans. I am loving it.

Damn Bros. Why isn't she real bros... it hurts. Some of my screenshots of intergrade. I beat FF7 (original) for the first time this year. I even got the plat trophy. I waited to play the remake so I have a solid understanding of everything. I loved what they did with character interactions.

Nenji Tomi Megumi Nat-chan are all top tier. Damn I really can't pick a favorite. I did not like Shinonome and Tamao. Everyone else was A1. If you haven't played 13 sentinels yet...what are you waiting for?
