The Giveaway of a Lifetime
I joined then quit almost every sport by the end of high school. I was in and out of theatre. I used to be in a rock band. I never really cared about the pursuit of knowledge, so my academics went to shit. I fell in and out of love over and over and I think that’s the worst part.
I gave pieces of myself away, but never grew into anything.
Now there isn’t much left.

Sunshine and Coffee
I keep having to remind myself that things can be replaced; houses can be fixed. The intangible moments and memories we collect with those that we love are priceless. My family is safe, we survived the flood. It’s just hard to keep my head up as we drudge through the aftermath.
In Stephen King’s The Stand, Mother Abigail is fond of a short prayer; “God is great, God is good. Thank you for the sunshine and the coffee.” As strange as it may sound, that little prayer has been what’s kept me going lately. I’m down to my last hundred dollars until next week; I don’t have a car; and my family is living in half of a house.
But somehow the prayer helps.

Two days ago, my brother’s friend killed himself. They served in the marines together.
In memory of all those lost on 9/11, a hotel served free coffee and muffins from 8:45am-9:45 am.

And on the third day he said, "Fuck It," because he was too drunk on wine to post anything of substance. He was celebrating because he got a job that day. Goodnight.
Daily Writing 2: Make It Happen
It's a bit disheartening to commit to a writing challenge and then lose your laptop the next day. I present to you this post from a very old, very beaten, and very laggy iPad. Let this be an inspiration to you youngsters out there: If you want to make it happen, make it happen.
Thinking too much is a flaw of mine that I will carry with me probably for the rest of my life. It wouldn't be such a shitty thing to do I if I somehow managed to churn out shiny, glistening thoughts 24/7, but that's not gonna happen. No one over thinks happy thoughts and if you know someone who does, send them my way and maybe I could learn a thing or two.
Going with the flow has never been my style. At times I'm jealous of people who float on, never worrying about where the wind takes them. It isn't that I'm much of a downer, but I feel like I'm anchored by reality. So I can't ways immerse myself in the Now because I'm always thinking Ok, But What Next? I got a job today and I'm already thinking about leaving. But I guess that’s just me being me.

Daily Writing 1: Getting Started
It’s September now and these past two weeks have been a steady stream of shit hitting the fan. I’m in a new city with no job, and hurricane harvey, to put it lightly, was a bit of a monkey wrench in my master plan of putting my life together.
We’re almost a week into this new month, but I want nothing but good vibes from here on out. And I think a lot of those vibes are going to come from me posting more. I don’t have any followers, but maybe this post will reach someone and put a little pep in their step. I want to post daily for the rest of the month and maybe something will come of it. Most likely, nothing will come of it other than my mind and soul taking a fantastic, steamy shit in the form of a blog post.
Writing is good for that kind of stuff. So let’s do this. Let’s rid ourselves of junk of the heart.

The storm is supposed to hit soon and they're saying thousands of homes are going to be destroyed. Today I bought bread, water, and whiskey. I'd rather drown in the whiskey. And I'll be damned if I die sober.
