Charlotte Observer photographer Don Sturkey captured the ugly incident on film, and in the days that followed, the searing image appeared not just in the local paper but in newspapers around the world.

People everywhere were transfixed by the girl in the photograph who stood tall, her five-foot-ten-inch frame towering nobly above the mob that trailed her. There, in black and white, was evidence of the brutality of racism, a sinister force that had led children to torment another child while adults stood by. While the images display a lot of evils: prejudice, ignorance, racism, sexism, inequality, it also captures true strength, determination, courage and inspiration.

I desperately need yall to understand the difference between "only cops and military personnel should have guns" and "guns are dangerous and marginalized people are at higher risk of being victims of gun violence. take away the government's guns if you're going to take away the people's".

because like. gun control in the neoliberal sense only gives cops and the military more power, but the solution isn't "fuck it, guns for everyone!"

I'm from Toronto- I've seen what gun violence does to communities (no matter who is pulling the trigger, though obviously the cops do more of that). I believe in disarming the government (police, military, etc.), but I've also seen that gun deaths are higher in houses where there are guns. Can you guess why?

Because guns are dangerous and more often than not used to oppress people. Even when they aren't being used to oppress the risks outweigh the benefits!

Unfortunately not that simple. So.e goods poi ts there but I love to shoot. Haven't hunted in a long time except for birds. I grew up with rural roots and a number of years back. People are different now in many cases. Quick to jump, slow to take responsibility. So someone mentioned indigenous...sounds a bit racist. Not all northern peoples are first nations...another bump. So yeah...no easy answer in sight but I'll keep my rifles and shotgun just the same.

Leclerc: I'm tired of being called racist for not kneeling

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc said he is fed up with people suggesting he is a racist because he has not taken a knee ahead of Formula One races this year.

Charles Leclerc’s thought process, if this article is accurate: “I do not kneel alongside Lewis Hamilton and the majority of Formula 1 drivers, and as a result, people think I’m racist. Even worse, racist organizations are using my image to promote their hateful views. But if I choose to kneel like so many of my colleagues do, it could be seen as controversial in some countries. Therefore I do not kneel.”

So people actually believing that he’s racist bothers him, but it doesn’t bother him as much as people possibly being offended if he puts one knee on the ground. I don’t get it. But I’m not walking in his shoes. (I don’t think Charles Leclerc is a racist, but when you put on that red suit you put yourself under one of the biggest microscopes in sports. All of the speculation is caused by his behavior, and it would all end if he’d change his behavior. It’s his choice.)

Like most fat people, I have had a lot of mindless, hateful abuse spat at me. Strangers have either shouted “F**k you, fat b***h!” after me as I walked down the street or simply added a “You shouldn’t eat that.” if I eat anything but lettuce in public.

It is TRULY astounding the mean, stupid or just downright hateful things that come out of "intelligent" peoples mouths. Even in elementary school...I knew what was fun/funny...and what was not. I have ALWAYS preferred a fuller-figured woman...and always felt comfortable...so maybe in a way I'm bad like the idiots. I judge on size too...if you're small...not at all.
