Theo felt like he was going to pass out right then and there.
This was supposed to be a refreshing, new, exciting thing for him - alright, maybe he had been recruited to be the tech director, since he was oh-so reliable and an excellent multitasker. (He wasn’t. He just happened to be amazing at finishing things in the easiest, most convenient way possible.)
Either the universe hated him, or fate was terrible and cruel, because running into your ex in a goddamn theatre camp was coincidental in all the worst ways. Things hadn’t ended too well between them, and spotting Ram (who hadn’t seen him yet, probably - Theo tried to remain as inconspicuous as he could) made his eyes watery and his lungs close up like a shitty allergic reaction.
This wasn’t fair for Ram - Theo didn’t want to spend the next three months with a heavy heart. So, like a self-respecting adult, he approached him. It was good to, at the very least, be civil about it, right? Theo was the technical director, for fuck’s sake - they’re going to have to work together, whether Theo liked it or not. He can’t let his emotions get in the way of his job.
“Hey,” Theo said, forcing a small, polite smile. Crap, he shouldn’t have done this. He was. already regretting every second. Was it appropriate to run away after greeting somebody? Probably not. “Didn’t expect you to be here.” Did Ram grow an extra five inches? Why did it felt like he was looming over him?
Ram could’ve sworn he recognized that blonde head of hair, but chose to ignore it, in hopes that he was wrong. Surely his ex wasn’t just going to show up, right? Surely if Riley had hired him she would’ve told him, right? Jesus fuck this was messed up.
Remembering how crushed he’d been when things had ended, he tried to curl in on himself to avoid being seen; hopefully without looking weird to anyone else who might notice him. This Summer wasn’t about him, it was about Riley and the kids, and none of them needed his drama, so ignoring it was the plan. Except apparently Theo wasn’t game for this plan, as he was fast approaching, and Ram wasn’t about to run and look like a coward.
“Hi?” He hadn’t meant it as a question, but he was still in quite a state of shock, and hadn’t really decided how to feel about the situation yet. Then Theo spoke again, and Ram scoffed, knowing full well he was about to sound bitter. “I know, right? Especially since we’ve kept in such constant contact, I’m surprised you could forget such a thing. No but really, why would you expect any less? Surely you noticed this is my sister’s camp, and you know how I always strive to be there for her when big things happen."
