The Last Jake and Amir Episode Ever
Congrats to Jake and Amir. Thanks for the best web series ever, full of 8 years of goofy dumb fun I was a sucker for when I was 18 and am still a sucker for today. Will miss this show a lot.
Todah
Lots going on in TV land this week and next including the start of a new season of Game of Thrones on Apr 12 and the NCAA Championship game tonight. So lets see how many things I can mash-up for today’s Daily Dose of Dead. This is Dire Wolf from the December 8, 1973 show at the Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke University.
You can do a six degrees of separation for the Grateful Dead as well as Kevin Bacon. In GOT, the Dire Wolf was a pet given to and loyal to the stark children and Jon Snow. Dire wolves are held to be near-mythical in most of the south of Westeros. The names are as follows:
Ghost, Nymeria, Summer , Shaggydog, Grey Wind and Lady.
In reality, The dire wolf (Canis dirus, “fearsome dog”) is an extinct carnivorous mammal of the genus Canis, roughly the size of the extant gray wolf, but with a heavier build. It evolved in North America and later moved into South America.
Of course Duke, the site of this dead show is in the National Championship game tonight. This show at Duke was pretty amazing and of course in 1973 the Dead’s PA system was the mammoth “Wall of Sound”… yet another tie-in to the GOT series with “the wall”.
Additional linkage is that in 1973, the UCLA bruins won the NCAA title with one Bill Walton as their star player. Bill as most people know is a die-hard deadhead and even traveled with the band to Egypt.
Alright… enough for today. More GOT & NCAA to come this week….
Enjoy!
“In the timbers of Fennario the wolves are running round, the winter was so hard and cold, froze ten feet ‘neath the ground. Don’t murder me, I beg of you don’t murder me, please don’t murder me.”
Alfred Jensen's "Great Pyramid" 1980.
Really, really love this painting.
Today’s Daily Dose of Dead is a fantastic version of Passenger from the October 19, 1981 show at the Sports Palace in Barcelona Spain.
Passenger was a song I loved to see live and Jerry would often go off on this tune. Barcelona is a great example. They played Passenger 98 times all between 1977 and 1981. In fact, the Barcelona show was the 95th time with only 3 to go.
As a reminder the music to Passenger was composed by Phil Lesh and the lyrics were written by Peter Monk.
As far as its place in the 1/10/79 show it really started it all in terms of amping the show up a few hundred notches. Following Passenger was a great Loser and hot..hot…hot Music Never.
Enjoy this one… it rocks!
"Firefly, can you see me? Shine on, glowing, brief and brightly.”
Lost Grateful Dead photos: I was scanning in some old negatives I found and came across these early attempts in 1980 of taking pictures at a concert with a nikkormat camera. Pics are from Glens Falls Civic Center and Radio City Music Hall.
Hope you enjoy even though not the best quality. Brings back the memories!
I am missing this show so much already.
The Colbert Report was such a huge, consistently amazing thing in my life since I was 16. Part of the reason I went to NYU and moved to NYC was I thought it meant a better chance at working on Colbert one day. My life went a different route, but I'll always identify as a part of Colbert Nation.
We'll meet again.

Today’s Daily Dose of Dead is the Hunter/Garcia song Built To Last from the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA on August 18, 1989.
Built to Last is also the title of the thirteenth and final studio album by the Grateful Dead. It was recorded between February 1 and October 20, 1989 and released on October 31, 1989. It shares the distinction of being a title track for an album, along with “Blues for Allah,” “Terrapin Station,” and “Shakedown Street”.
Not my favorite dead song ever, this falls into the mold of late hunter/garcia songs that seemed to have the same rhythm/cadence and were filled with lyrics built on (no pun intended) opposing themes (e.g. “You can walk on coals of fire but sometimes you must freeze.”).
This is a nice version of the song and looking back you can view this more of an prophecy which tells us that their were a lot of fragile elements to the Grateful Dead but long after all those crack, break and die, the musical foundation which was given by them will live for ever. That is something truly built to last!
Enjoy!
"Built to last till time itself falls tumbling from the wall. Built to last till sunshine fails and darkness moves on all. Built to last while years roll past like cloudscapes in the sky. Show me something built to last or something built to try.”
"This is a nice version of the song and looking back you can view this more of an prophecy which tells us that their were a lot of fragile elements to the Grateful Dead but long after all those crack, break and die, the musical foundation which was given by them will live for ever. Love this quote from my dad on the Dead's "Built To Last." Amazing, next-level commentary and reflection, as always.
Hi, all. I'm hard at work on Just Cause 3 as I type this, but I wanted to share my four favorite screenshots of all the ones we've released so far.
To see all the screenshots we've released head here.
Get hype.
God I love SpaceChem
Lukas goes in depth about the addition of factions. He says that factions prevent homogenization of decks (Players will always put the best cards together if they can), it opens up design space, the mechanics are linked with themes, and allows for personal expression amongst players.
Ha, I <3 this Just Cause 3 announcement reaction gif someone made.
So I can finally announce to the tumblrverse that the game I'm working on at Avalanche Studios is Just Cause 3!
I'm pretty excited to be working on a sequel to Just Cause 2, which I sincerely believe to be one of the best open-world action games of the previous console generation.
It'll be out for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2015, so start getting hype now.
Game Informer is going to be the best place to get coverage and more info over the coming months, if you're interested.

Today’s Daily Dose of the Dead is Sugar Magnolia from the mammoth april 2, 1973 show at the Boston Garden.
The t-shirt in the artwork has a dancing bear dressed in bruins gear doing the Bobby Orr dive (from 1970).
This mag is really quite good, especially the sunshine daydream. I think you will find this perfect for a Sunday morning.
Enjoy!
"Sugar Magnolia, ringing that bluebell. Caught up in sunlight. Come on out singing and I’ll walk you in the sunshine. Come on honey, come along with me.”
A really awesome Sugar Magnolia. Also that bruins Dancing Bear t-shirt is on point.
I think I messed up trying to post this earlier… here’s a GIF of RunMan the Great, my newest game in development which will probably blow your mind when it’s release
Looks amazing.
