Let's kick this page off with a theory about our favorite salty gem, shall we? I'm sure we've all heard the line "I'm just a Pearl..." and that it broke our hearts, but what does that mean? There is a theory out there (and all credit belongs to the original author) that claims that Rose Quartz may have been Pink Diamond, a figure of importance. Being just a Pearl implies that there are many more, so what if they're just bodyguards given to protect those of importance, trained to protect and be emotionless. This Pearl was however sent to protect the Pink Diamond/Rose and protect her no matter where it lead her, even to earth. Pearl defended Rose even when she had turned against her own kind, even if she could have died, that's what she was raised, was made to do without thinking of herself. So what makes this Pearl any different? Being shown emotion. Those on Homeworld most likely saw Pearls as nothing but guards, but Rose cared for /every/ gem. This display of emotions broke everything Pearl was taught and she turned to Rose for guidance, learning how to be independent and even discovering love. While Rose did care for other's such as Garnet and Amethyst, Pearl would have the strongest connection with Rose, the one who makes her feel like she was everything, like she was strong. The gem who had taught her to be true to herself, the gem she had love is now gone, snatched away by something she couldn't control, leaving her with nothing to fight for, nothing to love, nothing but Steven. Without her rock she turns to the strongest, Garnet, looking for support, for fusion, just to feel like she's fighting with someone, fighting /for/ someone, someone who tells her how to feel now that she just seems to be a candle lost in the dark, seems to be "just a Pearl."
