SPOILERS for the Twisted Wonderland Anime EP 3:
So my first thoughts are that the anime is following the manga version of TWST, rather than the game version of TWST (I haven't read the novel version yet so I don't know how it differs either).
I kinda like that each released version of TWST (Game, Manga, Anime, Novel?) plays out a little differently... I assume it's because the Yuus are supposed to represent all of us and everyone experiences things differently.. That being said, there are some scenes from the game that I wish we got instead of the Manga version. Such as Ace, Deuce, Yuuken, and Grim all finding and getting the magestone in the Dwarf's Mine together, rather than Ace and Deuce being dragged off by Trey, Cater, and Riddle before they could actually get the magestone. I would have liked to see the following scene with Crowley where he bursts into tears and all four of them are like "How old ARE you, Headmage? Bursting into tears in public!" That's one of my favorite scenes from the prologue and I'm a little sad we didn't get to see it.
Also, I don't really understand why Riddle was so angry when Deuce and Ace weren't there to sing with the rest of the dorm when the hedgehog sneezed.. I mean, I know he's in his "Going on a Rampage" Era, but Crowley told him already that he'd sent Ace and Deuce to the Mine. Like, Bestie, I get that rule breakers' heads should roll and all that, but shouldn't you wait to punish them until after their expulsion has been recalled? What sense does it make to collar them if they're gonna be expelled the next morning, in like, seven hours??
Moving on to the stuff I did like about the anime, Grim may be a brat some times, but he is genuinely pretty funny. Waiting to announce himself until Ace, Deuce, and Yuuken needed his help (lighting a candle), and then looking so smug and proud of himself! 😂 Also, Ace and Deuce having just explained that neither of them could light the candle because they need to be able to imagine their magic to do it, and apparently they are not imaginative at all?? And then Grim pops off and does it like it's nothing! The fact that he can control the strength he puts into his flames (ignoring the fact that he almost never does) is super cool and something we never see in game. Grim DOES have what it takes to become a great mage, ignore the haters my son!!
And I love that Ace is already shown to be Yuu's ride or die. When Deuce charged at the monster unprepared, Ace yelled at him and basically called him an idiot. When Yuuken ran toward the monster unprepared (other than 'Save Deuce'), Ace was right behind, hoping Yuuken had a plan, but he was right there regardless! 😍😍 We love to see it!
Also, I might have said this in the first episode breakdown that I did, but I love how the anime portrays the students using magic!!! It looks so cool!! The art is gorgeous, the voice actors (Japanese and English are the ones I listen to) are doing phenomenal, it's just all really good!
