This is a snippet of a WIP I'm working on titled A Sin to be Forgiven

Detroit Become Human fic. Human AU with a forbidden live affair between a detective and a priest.

For the first time in a decade, Connor could finally breathe. The air even smelled sweeter. There were no more tests. No more exams. No more cramming all night, fueled by coffee and energy drinks.

And spite.

Since he was a freshman in high school, this is all he ever wanted to be: a detective. Serving the people and helping to bring justice. Maybe it was naive, but he wanted to help people. He wanted to make sure the things that had been done to his family, to him, never happened to anyone else. So help him god.

But now was the time for celebration. He checks his reflection once more before leaving his room. His hair was longer than it should be. He needs to get it cut, that one stupid curl on his forehead mocking him. But his jersey and jeans were fresh and clean, and the bags under his eyes were finally leaving. He runs his hand through his hair before giving up and getting back to his friends.

Markus, Luther, and Simon were already pregaming in the kitchen. A shot of something clear sits waiting for him on the counter.

"Started without me? Rude." He says before taking a tentative whiff. Whatever it was, would burn going down.

"You'll catch up soon enough," Luther says sliding him a chaser.

Connor takes the shot and shudders, choking out, "I can't wait until I can afford something better than whatever that was."

Five favorite fics I've written

I was tagged by the lovely @tmgt 💙💙 to talk about 5 fics I've written and why I'm proud of them :D

1. Snow and Snuggles (Hetalia, Rus/Ame)

I'm really proud of this one because this was my first fan fic I've ever published. It was part of the 2016 Ten fucking years ago holy shit Christmas exchange. Funnily enough, I was so new to Fandom spaces and Ao3 that I gifted the recipient incorrectly, and only LAST year gave it to them properly. I'm proud because it was a first in a lot, and honestly rereading, I realized I was - in fact - good at writing.

2. Another Life, In Different Bodies (Detroit Become Human, Connor/Gavin)

This one I'm proud of because of the connections I was able to make through it. It came about from a discord discussion and I had so much fun writing it and connecting with the community. It made me realize I can actually end a long fic and I kinda fell in love with a character I didn't care for (Gavin) and found I actually do enjoy the fandom version of him. I liked the banter I wrote for Tina and Gavin and the barely restrained over protectiveness of Connor as he's hiding a secret that he knows can ruin his and Gavin's marriage if he doesn't come clean the right way.

3. Half Memories (Detroit Become Human, Connor/Rupert)

By FAR my least popular fic 😂 but I'm proud of this because it was the first fic I started consistently writing after a decade of not writing creatively. It was my first DBH fic period and I cherish the few people who have commented and kudos it. One person said it was their favorite on the site and my heart just exploded from happiness. I will finish that fic for them. It was the fic that brought me into the Fandom at all and the beginning of this obsession I've kept for the last year XD actually this might be number 1 but I'll keep it at 3

4. Just eat the soup (Detroit Become Human, Reed900)

This was a gift to my awesome beta julee92 and I'm proud of this one because it's a fic /one shot of a pairing that's not my OTP but it was a lot of fun to write. A sicfic with chicken noodles and teasing. What's not to like? Especially since it was a gift to friend 🩷

5. The Dance (Detroit Become Human, Connor/Rupert)

I'm proud of this one because it made someone else's list of favorite fics and I just melted because, as with rare pairs and low engagement, you think: Nobody likes this. Why do I publish this? I could keep this in my folders.

But then one person loves it, and you're just like… "Yeah, that's awesome." I'll keep posting my rarepairs. I'm proud of this one because of the little details I put in it too :)

I think the only one I'm not super proud of is my Stardew Valley fic where I change POV, tense, and main character name inconsistently throughout??? But I plan on revamping it one day 😊

Context: my teacher translated the verb “to grasp with one’s hand” as “to fist” since that’s kinda what it literally means, but you can’t translate it like that into English because “to fist” means something ENTIRELY different, but she doesn’t know that.

So she was explaining how they use the verb to describe the angel of death taking your soul — he rips your soul out of you with his fist. Now that’s pretty damn metal, but she said word for word “the angel of death fists you, and then you die” which is the single most terrifying and powerful sentence to ever grace my ears

OMG just had a really cute idea

The Eridians have realized that visual media is pretty important to Grace. He showed Rocky a bunch of Earth movies and videos on the trip to Erid, he tends to watch a lot of TV on his downtime, so it's pretty clear that this is a major form of entertainment for him. He's got so many things stored on the Hail Mary's systems that he'll never be able to conceivably watch it all in his lifetime, but the Eridians still worry about him getting bored. And hey, Grace has mentioned that this visual media can be used for educational purposes, right?

So they decide to make a movie for Grace, maybe teaching him a bit more about their planet and its history. They figure it'll be a nice way to help him learn more about his new home if the information is delivered in a way that's more familiar to him, right?

Only, they can't see, and their screen to texture readers can only do so much.

The resulting movie is a cross between a Hollywood blockbuster and a badly done children's Christmas pagent.

The set design? Phenomenal. The props? Intricate and incredibly well made. Set crews on Earth would kill to work with an Eridian for these things. The movie is genuinely stunning to look at, and includes scenes set in parts of Erid that Grace has never seen before.

The acting? Wooden and awkward. The camera work? Hilariously bad.

The movie looks amazing, but none of the Eridians know how to act with their bodies, so mostly they're just standing there stiffly and reciting lines. They can't tell where the camera is, so half the time only parts of them are visible on the screen, and set crew keep walking by in the background without realizing they can be seen. 30% of the movie, the camera isn't even focused properly.

It's messy and awkward and oh so earnest, and the first time Grace watches it he bursts into tears because they put so much effort into something just for him, and he loves it so much.

The Eridian movie becomes a staple in the biodome, and Grace watches it at least once a month. It's absolutely his new favourite.
