@ransomdracalis
South Asian people using their hand to eat rice is not something abnormal or gross.. It’s our tradition and it’s just as normal as East Asians using chopsticks.
Also if you think the hand is gross or not clean enough for us to pick our food but you think it’s clean enough for you to hold your pizza, burger then just letting you know you are fuckin hypocrite lol
lowkey don’t like how ppl are tagging this as unsanitary
I eat curry and rice with my hands and let me tell you…it’s a sacred technique
Americans eat food with our fingers all the fucking time. It’s ridiculous to call it unsanitary… unless your hands are dirty.
Guys it’s not rocket science
You just eat the food With your hand?
Are your hands clean? Then you’re fine.
it’s highkey racist tagging this as unsanitary.
everyone who tagged this with #unsanitary is a fuckin racist and is no longer ever allowed to eat anything with their bare hands ever again
There is a technique to eating with our fingers that white people don’t know. The way Westerners eat with their hands is downright unsanitary and it has nothing to do with how we do it. There is an entire etiquette laid down in Buddhist writings on the proper and sanitary way to eat with our fingers and it is so delicate and refined that it makes most people who stab away with their cutlery look gross in comparison.
We scrub our hands thoroughly before we eat.
We only use our right hand for eating (unless you’re a leftie) and then the food can only come up to the inside of the second knuckle and the fingers do not touch the tongue or inside of the mouth.
The left hand never touches the food if you are eating a rice-based dish and if you are eating bread, the left is only used to help tear and never touches the plate.
You’re supposed to push the food into the mouth with your thumb.
Food does not touch the palm.
Your cheeks are not supposed to bulge when eating.
Food is not supposed to spill or smear anywhere.
It is also considered gross to lick your fingers. Saliva does not make contact with one’s hands at any point.
Unless you’ve spent years learning, you won’t be able to do this properly. Conversely, I only started using cutlery to eat when I was 14 and picked it up fine.
Most South Asians find cutlery somewhat off-putting because they’ve been in other people’s mouths and we don’t know how clean they are, especially at restaurants. And yet we adapt and don’t go around calling other people’s ways of life unsanitary and barbaric.
Don’t be ignorant and supremacist, please.
Note: the bit about licking your fingers does not apply to Muslim South Asians. We’re encouraged to do so because it follows the example of the Prophet and also because it reduces food waste. But only after we’re done eating, and then there’s a specific order (pinkie to thumb). Everything else @pornyplothead said is accurate. Y'all don’t know jack shit about South Asian mealtime etiquette.
Thanks @amethystinia. I stand corrected. There are also such variations among the many, many South Asian cultures and they all have specific dictates concerning hygiene and consuming food without mess or waste. Our cultures are extremely old and our traditions have kept us hale and hearty all that time. Respect them.
Racism and a bit Classism I grew lower-middle-class on a horse farm in the midwest US, picking shit up off the ground, brushing it off a bit, then eating it.
Like, straight out of the garden - I just watched a beetle crawl over this strawberry, now the berry is in my mouth. This cucumber has been resting on the ground for literal weeks as it grew, sitting through the sun and rain and mud, but I just hosed it off a bit, and now I’m eating it like a long apple. All your vegetables came from a farm, sitting in mud, letting bugs crawl over it for weeks.
Parents would whoop my ass if I turned my nose up/wasted food just ‘cause it got a bit dusty. Unless that shit was covered in sauce or fell in like, mud or something, it’s still edible.
A chicken nugget fell on the grass? Oh well, brush it off - eat it.
Not even joking. We once found moth mealworms in the oats AFTER we baked a bunch of oatmeal-chocolate-chip cookies. Parents shrugged, gave the last of the mealy oats to the horses, and we enjoyed our cookies. (now with extra protein!) - You learn to waste NOTHING. Just wash your hands regularly and you’re fine.
I mean for goodness sake, y’all eat APPLES, after your hands have been cupping the hell out of them. Berries are exclusively finger foods, and I’ve yet to see someone cut a slice of bread without palming the whole loaf. (actually can’t even right now)
Conclusion: My immune system is god-tier. I could eat soup cupped out of my hands and not give a fuck. Onigiri and donuts are both tasty, everyone eats with their goddamn hands so people need to chill.
I used to do the same thing as a kid. My grandparents had a very extensive garden, and I’d regularly eat raspberries, peas, and carrots right out of it. A fresh pea pod is so delicious!
I didn’t know that some southeast Asian cultures would be so particular with the way that they eat food with their hands. That’s interesting. Still, I’m surprised that people would consider eating food with your hands unsanitary, regardless of culture. Have they never heard of finger food? And how do they think the food is prepared? Do they really think chefs don’t touch the food either?
If you want to ensure that eating with your hands is sanity, just wash your hands, the same as you’d do for any utensil.
friendly reminder: owning up to, learning from, and apologizing for your mistakes can go a long way

let 👏 bisexual 👏 girls 👏 love 👏 boys
LET 👏 BISEXUAL 👏 GIRLS 👏 LOVE 👏 BOYS
who’s stopping them
Lesbians who say they’ll never date a girl that has touched a man. People that say bi girls will cheat because they’re bi. There’s so much biphobia not only with straight people, but in the gay community
my lesbian friends who told me they were “high-key disappointed” when i started dating a cishet boy. my ex girlfriend who asked me “wait weren’t you gay” and then when i explained i was bi went “um. ew lol”. the whole “gold star lesbian” bullshit. can we face the biphobia in the lgbt community instead of shoving it under the rug lol

The good stuff! Check out more pics like these here and here.
There’s a lot of negative posts going around, not intentionally negative but highlighting the issues at hand - they are doing their job, but let’s not forget the light and the good that still prevails. And it does - I promise you that - because, fundamentally, people are good.
A cat and a lowercase cat
What can we do to fight what’s being done to the environment, in the wake of the EPA censorship and the greenlighting of oil pipelines? Serious question.
Is this a matter of further activism, protests/sit-ins/so forth, are there non-federal groups still devoted to doing the work that the park service and the EPA are being prevented from doing? Where can we donate, what can we physically do?
I don’t think calling our representatives is going to work this time. It won’t be enough. We have to be able to take a modicum of power into our own hands, because it’s becoming increasingly clear that no one in charge is going to help us.
Some groups to donate to for environmental causes:
National Wildlife Federation Sierra Club Environmental Defense Fund World Wildlife Fund EarthJustice Natural Resources Defense Council Conservation International National Parks Conservation Association Ocean Conservancy Other groups to donate to and support
Get involved with local conservation and parks groups, get involved with the ACLU and SPLC and other legal groups, support NoDAPL and other activist groups. Get involved with local politics - support liberal, moderate and Democratic causes at your schools, your town councils, your county government, your state government. Change things at the bottom because we sadly gotta wait for the top to topple - It’s gonna be a busy four years.
Thank you so much!
Merry Christmas, everyone :)
here’s to a better 2017 (x)
