This gives me hope. Iâm 22. Iâm not that old, but Iâm assuming Iâm older than these students in the video. To see this young intelligent woman school her teacher on white privilege and the affects of white supremacy gives me hope. They are young and using their voice! This is gives me hope yaâll.Â

Iâm just saying, yâall are praising her, but it doesnât seem like she was debating anything at all. It seemed like she was demanding the teacher just shut up and accept what she says is the truth because sheâs black and the teacherâs white.
Iâm not saying sheâs 100% wrong, but sheâs not 100% right either, and itâs hard to get people to accept your point of view if all youâre doing is demanding they do so and not giving them the courtesy you demand they give to you (i.e. trying to accept your point of view).
Like it or not, the teacher likely left not being convinced by her at all, since it was clearly not a respectful debate but a student telling her teacher to just shut up and accept her âtruth.â That sounds more condescending than anything.

This is pure gold. I hope everyone has the candour and courage to speak against what is wrong. If people this young get that itâs important to have a voice then I still believe that there is hope.Â

Tuesday night 8/25/2020, a young man named Kyle Rittenhouse went to the Kenosha riots to render medical aid to protesters and defend private property from rioters. Â To quote Kyle, âPeople are getting injured. Our job is to protect this building. Â And part of my job is to also help people. Â If there is somebody hurt, Iâm running into harms way, thatâs why I have my rifle with me, so I can protect myself, obviously. Â I also have my med kit. â
During the riots, Kyle was attacked by a violent felon and registered sex offender named Joseph Don Rosenbaum. Â Rosenbaum was angry that Kyle was armed and defending property that Rosenbaum wanted to destroy, which ultimately lead to Rosenbaum attacking Kyle.
Rosenbaum had been recorded taunting other armed citizens earlier in the evening, calling them the n-word and daring them to shoot him, while trying to instigate fights with them.
At some point during the evening, Rosenbaum, along with a group of other instigators, chased Kyle through a parking lot. Â During the chase, which was caught on video, one of the other instigators can be seen firing a weapon in the background, along with Rosenbaum hurling some kind of object at Kyle in an attempt to injure him.
Rosenbaum was able to chase Kyle down and attempt to grab Kyleâs gun from him, which caused Kyle to fear for his life. Â Kyle defend himself by shooting Rosenbaum in the head, killing him.
After Kyle ended the threat to his life, Kyle began making his way toward the police line in an attempt to turn himself in. Â While he was making his way toward the police, another group of violent armed rioters heard that Kyle had shot a Rosenbaum and began to chase Kyle down in an act of mob justice.
Kyle tried to run from them toward the police, but he tripped and fell, allowing the mob to descend upon him. Â One of the violent rioters swung a skateboard at Kyle as he lay on the ground, another jump kicked him, while yet another pulled a pistol and aimed it at Kyle. Â The entire event was captured on video from several angles.

Donât you just love it when people praise other people for violating another personâs property instead of talking about their issues?
âTalking about their issuesâ? You mean the issue where a handful of states seceded from the United States in order to retain their âstateâs rightsâ to own an entire race of people as though they were property, forming an army known as the Confederacy? Or do you mean the issue where the Confederacy fought and lost the war in the name of owning an entire race of people as though they were property in a matter of a few years, coined a flag after the fact (the âConfederate flagâ seen above, which was never flown in battle), only for the descendants of those sore losers to put up a rash of monuments in the 1920s and 1960s, during two notable decades of struggle for Black American Civil Rights (I wonder why)? Or is this about the issue where the flag was adopted for use by White Americans (and in particular White American Police Officers) as a shorthand signal to fellows in the know that they were paid-up and hooded members of the Ku Klux Klan?
Or, guessing that the young woman who made this her pottery project was comfortable enough to do so, can we safely assume that if she was comfortable enough to flash this flag around, that she is either too stupid to comprehend if she was taken aside to talk about it, or too much of a callous racist to care?
Also love when people assume other things about certain people without even knowing them based solely on their own perceptions. You know, not racism.
Youâre right there. Identifying someone as acting in a way that suggests either ignorance or apathy to their own groupâs history of deadly discrimination against marginalised communities â on account of once fighting to own members of a particular marginalised community as though they were property â may be making educated assumptions, but it is not racism.
Racism would be having a history of enslaving, killing, attacking and discriminating against a marginalised community based on their belonging to a particular racial group; using legal systems, political systems, and systems of law enforcement in order to codify and perpetuate that discrimination ad infinitum; and uniting under a banner that represents that history of racial discrimination while claiming that it is simply âSouthern cultureâ and âjust about stateâs rightsâ without a care for what rights those states were fighting for. And whether Little Miss Rebel up there is aware of the history of the Confederacy or not, claimed ignorance of the crime is not absolution from it. The action of bringing such a symbol (which represents a violent, hate-filled history) into any public space will net a consequence, and that consequence is ground into the floor, where everything that flag stands for actually belongs.
If racism was âjust aboutâ drawing assumptions some may find distasteful or incorrect, it wouldnât be called âracismâ.
I guess when you experience actual racism and learn to rise above such things, a discarded flag from a completely different time period ceases to bother you.
