It’s odd, that a stone with the word “Rarity” carved into it should make her as nervous as the real pony once did. That she should be pacing and rambling to herself in front of it as if it were watching her make a fool of herself.
When Rarity had been alive, there was always something keeping her from saying it out loud. Maybe both of them had been waiting for the other to confess. Maybe the idea that Twilight would have to go on without her kept Rarity from confessing. Maybe she was too generous for her own good.
What was keeping her now, though?
Keeping her nervous, like a filly with a schoolgirl crush.
Rarity had been so important to her. Too important to confess to. Because Rarity had one life, and Twilight had found herself blessed with many lifespans. It felt selfish, to ask Rarity to spend her one life, to waste it on her. Somepony who couldn’t give her everything she wanted in life.
Every time she went to confess there was another excuse. Another stallion Rarity was obsessing over, or dating, or a mare that Rarity was absolutely head over heels for. She couldn’t say something that would change things between them.
She couldn’t ruin their friendship.
When Rarity had married that stallion that Twilight could hardly remember the name of, she’d had 3 foals. And she seemed so happy. Too happy. Twilight wouldn’t have ruined it all for her. Twilight was perfectly content with the discontent that came with being Auntie Twi.
Even in the later years of Rarity’s life, when her husband had died, something kept her from saying it. First it was that Rarity was mourning. And then it was that Rarity was sick.
And now? What was keeping her now?
Rarity was already dead.
“I love you Rarity.” She said aloud, finally. But the weight on her chest did not lessen, so she said it again and again. Long into the night.
Day 7: Pining!! I couldn't resist the pun. I assume Twi did some sort of spell to understand her emotions and well. you can imagine!!
Fun Fact: this is the first one of the week I did, so I'm hoping I got the rest done and had fun, surely I did. Thank you to Mono for hosting this regardless, I looove these two!! And thank you to everyone else who participated, because I'm so well fed by you all!!
Raritwi Week, Day 5: Stuck Somewhere/Weather Event
Written for @raritwi-week 2026, chumps!
The sky above Ponyville was a burning, simmering, bubbling pink. Whispered words of encouragement emenated from within the thick clouds, flitting through the air towards the ground and embedding themselves in the grass and rooftops like sharp knives.
Throngs of ponies were gathered at the foot of the Castle of Friendship beating at the doors and shouting as loud as they could to be heard. All of Ponyville's residents seemed to be dedicated to busting in, each one trying to be louder than the other in their declarations.
From their perch on the balcony, Rarity and Twilight wanted the proceedings with blank expressions.
"I know I can be... prone to overreaction at times." Twilight finally piped up.
"But I really hope the calmness and placidity on my face underscores just how truthful I'm being when I say this."
"I'm listening."
Twilight pursed her lips, searching for the right words.
"I really, really don't think I've ever been more mortified in my life than I feel at this minute."
A falling compliment smacked into the doorframe above them, bouncing off and dissipating into the crystal floor.
I love you, Rarity. It hissed softly.
"You know what the funny part is?" Rarity asked.
"What's the funny part, Rarity?" Twilight sighed.
"I don't even need an explanation. I suspect I can put together the exact series of events that led to this occurrence."
"Go ahead."
"Starlight's emotional suppression spell, right?" Rarity guessed. "It gives those feelings in your head you don't wish to acknowledge a physical presence, but in turn, those feelings have to be stored somewhere."
Twilight sheepishly turned away. "...Yep."
"Only, her emotion she didn't wish to acknowledge was hatred." Rarity peered over the balcony. Several ponies below were holding jukeboxes and gramophones over their heads, creating a cacophany of power ballads and heartsongs with no real rhythm whatsoever. "This... Doesn't strike me as hatred."
"Mmhmm."
"And when her bottles broke and her run-off emotions infected the general populace, there was only enough to go around to fill three people, if I recall her confession correctly." Rarity dodged a tossed bouquet in a single graceful lean.
"I remember."
Rarity tapped her hoof to her chin. "That is quite a bit more than three people."
Twilight peered into the sky, squinting. "I'm guessing the entire town is being soaked in... 'runoff emotion', as you call it."
Rarity looked impressed. "That much, huh?"
"Yep."
Ponies were beginning to lay on the grass against each other strategically, forming letters visible from above. RA IT I A LWA L V E OU
"For that long?" Rarity asked genuinely. "You must have had an entire wing of the library dedicated to storing all of this. What broke it?"
"Crusaders."
"Ah. I do hope Sweetie isn't down there."
Twilight blushed. "I was going to tell you at some point."
"You had plans, I imagine? Spreadsheets and charts?"
"It just... wasn't optimal yet."
Rarity shot her a sympathetic smile. "It never would have been, darling."
"I think I get that now."
"Well, let no disaster go to waste, dear. I suppose I'll consider this your formal confession."
"Rarity, you don't have to-" Twilight interrupted.
"And I accept."
She paused. "...You do?"
"Mmhmm. Oh, of course, I would have done so anyway." Rarity casually tossed in the sentence Twilight had been waiting to hear her whole life. "But something about an entire town professing their undying love for me, and knowing it all came from one person... It's just romantic."
"So... You mean you'll...?"
Rarity smiled, and nuzzled cheeks with the alicorn beside her. "It's a date, darling."
Twilight buried her face in her hooves. After a moment, she cleared her throat.
"So... What do I do now?"
"You mean you didn't plan this far ahead?"
"It's a problem of mine. I get so caught up on stage 1..."
"...You neglect stages 2 and 3. We'll work on that." Rarity assured, rubbing noses with Twilight.
Down below, the last ponies took their place in the great formation, forming a message visible from the stars.
"We should really do something about this."
"Mm. Let it play out a bit. It's kind of flattering."
Rarity and Twilight play chess to distract themselves during a storm.

Prompt list.
---
A few hours into their storm-driven impromptu sleepover, Rarity and Twilight had ended up playing chess.
Rarity was quickly discovering that she wasn’t very good at it.
She huffed as Twilight moved her rook forward, neatly taking Rarity’s queen. “Checkmate.”
Rarity pouted as Twilight reset the board and turned it around. “Don’t you have any other board games?”
Twilight scrunched up her nose in thought. “Spike took most of them for his and Big Mac’s sleepover. There is Scrab-“
“No! I love you, dear, but Scrabble is entirely off-limits. We can stick with chess.”
Twilight nodded, then moved a pawn forward by two squares. “Your turn.”
Rarity pushed a pawn forward, then sighed as it was taken by Twilight’s bishop. She manuvered her bishop through the gap left by the pawn and promptly lost her piece to Twilight’s bishop. Moving her horse to take Twilight’s now-exposed bishop, she smiled, then frowned as Twilight moved her horse.
She examined the letters lining the board. “Why… E 2?”
Twilight didn’t answer, focused on the board.
Rarity pushed the pawn in front of her king forward and Twilight countered by swapping around her king and rook.
Rarity gasped in mock-offence. “How is that fair? Why are you allowed to move two pieces at once?”
“Castling.” Twilight yawned.
Rarity move a piece forward, more focused on Twilight than the game. “Dear, have you been getting enough of your beauty sleep?”
Several moves went by before Twilight replied. “…yes?” Then, in a way that seemed very much like she was changing the subject: “You’re in check.”
Rarity glanced down at the board, moved her king, then looked back up at Twilight. “I won’t let this go. How much sleep have you had this week?”
The game continued with Twilight ignoring the question - seemingly more out of exhaustion than malice - and Rarity steadily losing more pieces, until she placed Twilight in check. Twilight dutifully moved her rook to protect her king.
“After this game, will you go to bed?”
Twilight sighed, then nodded.
Right then. Rarity now had a mission: to lose this game as quickly as possible, without Twilight noticing. She pushed a pawn forward, a move that did nothing for her.
The game continued with Rarity always coincidentally moving her pieces into unfavourable positions - bar one accidental check, swiftly dealt with by Twilight - until:
“Oh, dear.” Rarity said, toying with her king. “I seem to only have my king left. I suppose I must have lost.”
Twilight didn’t reply, having finally fallen asleep. Rarity levitated over a nearby blanket and tucked it around Twilight, gently kissing Twilight’s forehead as she did so. “Goodnight, dear.”
“Now, where am I going to sleep? Surely a castle this size would have a guest bedroom.”
The castle did not, in fact, have a guest bedroom, as Twilight was ever-so politely informed by an irate Rarity the next morning.
