I love your big shot au! I was wondering, since Dipper wouldn’t idolize ford as much in this universe, what would spark the fight in dipper and Mabel vs the future? Maybe dipper feels like Mabel’s leaving him behind for some reason?
Dipper still does idolize ford a lot actually, he just doesnt know he does, as he's still obsessed with "The Author".
Once Dipper finds out who Ford really is he's pretty mad at him for a while, but Ford tries to make it up to him as best he can. (You can see one of their convos here) Eventually Ford gets the idea to invite Dipper to stay in gravity falls much like the regular universe...
So THAT aspect of what leads to Mabel's loneliness is the same.
Though I imagine instead of Mabel taking the rift from Dipper accidentally, it is something Stan entrusted to her.
I dont think he would tell her the significance of what it was. He would just tell her to keep it safe for him, and to keep it a secret.
Ford doesnt like gideon because yknow- He has his book full of evil magic. To an outsider it just looks like Ford hates psychics.
Ford doesnt really go out of his way to taunt him like Stan does. But what he DOES do is constantly try to get the townsfolk to change their thoughts on how much they love Gideon. He’s not very convincing but it does piss off Gideon pretty bad
So gideon is still constantly trying to destroy him like he did with stan. Ford’s just as good if not better (since again, Gideon is using his magic that he studied) at thwarting his plots though.

Sure. It’s not really the mystery shack we know anymore though. There’s no cryptids real or fake to be found in it.
So, Ford gets stuck and runs out of money after Fiddleford leaves the project.
He goes into town like Stan does, and

He makes a genuine attempt to show them around his lab,
But, the townspeople react like this basically
The stuff he tries to show them is ‘too weird’. Half of it is too complex for them to find interesting, the other half is ‘too scary’ for them to like. Lazy Susan absentmindedly hurts herself on something Ford left lying around (so she’s still got the eye).
Things are looking bad for him until
He’s saved by a drinking bird toy Fiddleford had left out and nobody ever put away.
He realizes he’s going to have to switch gears, and kinda turns his lab into a place with kid friendly science toys set up everywhere.
He puts up a persona of being basically a kids science teacher, restraining himself to simple concepts with simple applications.
Though you know how people in Gravity Falls are- it doesnt really matter how well he explains things to them
The mystery shack ends up looking like a science museum gift shop, and he doesnt really scam anyone like Stan does.
well, he definitely cant get his memories back until the twins get them for him, or else the story would be over too soon
but you know, ford is now going to be in gravity falls for the next 30 years
whether that would actually change things for Fiddleford other than having 1 townsperson who is more kind to him than the rest, i dont really know.
i dont think i’d shake a hand that was engulfed in flame no matter what the guy was offering me- but that might just be me

this post and all its wonderful additions (look in the notes) is circulating again. these photos and many of the ones added in the notes come from the US Southwest.
right now the trump administration is attacking the public lands in the Southwestern US. most recently (July 2026), in Utah the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments have been cut by over 90% to allow for mining. these lands are sacred to multiple Native nations in the area and contain irreplaceable archeological sites. additionally, the commission of Native representatives who aided in management of these lands has been dissolved leaving Native people without a voice in caring for the remaining land. here in New Mexico, the 10 mile buffer zone surrounding Chaco Canyon preventing oil and gas drilling is under attack. Chaco Canyon contains incredibly old and incredibly fragile archeological sites sacred to Pueblo people. these sites are threatened by mining and drilling. (read more here)
The attack on the Chaco buffer zone is currently in a public comment period open until July 29. PLEASE leave a public comment to save these irreplaceable places.
some people have cut this addition off of their reblogs and quite frankly that's disturbing.
you can't appreciate the desert and also erase the fact that these places are under attack.
and I'd even say it's downright racist. this isn't "just" the desert, these are sacred locations to multiple Native nations and they are under attack because they are sacred to many Native people. the least you can do is reblog to raise awareness to the attacks on these lands. there is no going back from mining and drilling. there is no way to repair these ancient archeological sites when the vibrations in the ground topple them and when they are bulldozed.
submitting a public comment is the absolute bare minimum you can do and if you can't be assed to write 1 sentence saying you don't support removing the Chaco buffer zone then at least leave the reblog encouraging other people to do so attached.
